It’s not Yoga. It’s not PT. It’s not a workout. So... what is it? 🧠

Fitness is about building capacity (strength/stretching). Feldenkrais is about refinement.

Think of it as the "clean-up" of our neurological messes and missteps. We don't focus on "burning" or "pushing"—we focus on sensing and coordination.

We move from "The Plop" to "The Glide."
🔵Instead of a heave to get out of a chair, you find skeletal support.
🔵Instead of a "grab" in your neck at your desk, you find options.
It’s an owner's manual for your nervous system.

Start where you are. No fitness or flexibility required.

Yesterday marked my 30-year sobriety birthday, and I wanted to celebrate by sharing one gratitude for each decade.

1. My sobriety will always be the most important thing I do, because it allows me to fully love—and be loved by—the people who matter most in my life. I’m grateful for it every single day, even when it feels like a street fight.

2. Five years ago, a woman approached me in an airport and thanked me for writing about sobriety as a superpower. She said it helped her get sober. I’m grateful for all the people whose words helped me along the way. Before boarding her flight, she asked if I’d accept a gift from a stranger. I said yes. She handed me her first AA chip. I carry it in my purse every day. We were never strangers.

3. My favorite line from the AA Big Book reads: “That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we have been placed in a position of neutrality—safe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor afraid. That is our experience. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition.”

Understanding and keeping in fit spiritual condition has been a decades-long challenge for me. I wrote about it in the final chapter of Strong Ground and I thought I’d share that full chapter with you today as a “thank you.” To read, go to the home page of brenebrown.com.

Today I am sober af and I am grateful. ❤️

What’s considered to be the most important thing for maintaining youthful skin? Daily application of sunscreen and taking other protective measures, like wearing a hat. All of the other things you can do for your skin pale in comparison.

What about retinoids for skin aging? There are gentle, less potent, over-the-counter topical retinoids, such as retinyl, retinol, and retinal, but data are limited. And, although the results of clinical trials on retinyl esters have been routinely disappointing, retinaldehyde and retinol hold some promise.

Of all of the nonprescription retinoid options, retinol may be the preferred choice. It causes even less irritation than retinaldehyde, and a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that 52 weeks of use "improved crow’s feet fine lines by 44 percent, and mottled pigmentation by 84 percent." (To be extra cautious, don’t use retinoids while pregnant.)

Population studies have also found that healthy eating is associated with less facial wrinkles. A meat- and junk-heavy diet is linked to more wrinkles, whereas a fruit-rich diet is associated with fewer wrinkles. Specifically, yellow vegetables and soy foods appear to be protective against wrinkles, but wine may make them worse.

🌿Your body is not aging randomly.

It is aging according to how well three specific organs are being cared for right now.

Not your birthday.
Not your genetics.
Not luck.

🌟Your liver filters every toxin, every hormone, every chemical your body encounters. When it’s overburdened—your skin, your energy and your resilience pay the price.

🌟Your kidneys govern your vital energy—your life force, your constitutional reserves, the deep wellspring that determines how gradually you age. In both Ayurveda and ancient healing traditions the kidneys are considered far more than a filtration system. They hold the energy that sleep anyone cannot restore.

🌟Your adrenals govern cortisol—and chronic cortisol is one of the most powerful aging accelerators known to science. Every time you push through exhaustion, your adrenals keep score.

The good news?

These organs are intelligent.
They are responsive.
They want to heal.

They just need the right conditions—bitter greens, mineral-rich foods. Sleep before 10, stillness that isn’t optional, and a life lived closer to nature.

You are not at the mercy of time.
You are in a conversation with it.

Every meal. Every night of good sleep. Every moment of stillness… is a message.

Send it the right message.

💛Save this—your organs will thank you.

Although no official standards exist for the amount of exercise to optimize happiness, “if they did, most Americans would almost certainly fall below them—because most people don’t exercise enough, if at all,” Arthur C. Brooks wrote in October. The good news? The bar for a workout routine is relatively low.
https://theatln.tc/DfYbek1K

“Most people have plenty of opportunity to get healthier and happier by doing something that involves no drugs or therapists, just a willingness to exert a little physical effort,” Brooks writes.
Researchers have shown that exercise strongly improves well-being. Not only can physical activity stimulate positive effects in the brain, but certain activities can also be especially beneficial for stress management or lead to increased confidence. “Most people who exercise regularly derive an improved feeling of community and accomplishment,” Brooks explains. “Indeed, for many, being athletic becomes central to their identity.”

Finding ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routine, however, can feel challenging. But no matter where you are in your fitness, there are ways to use exercise as a tool to boost your happiness. Find Brooks’s advice at the link.
