🇲🇽 Today is the day. In a few hours, Estadio Azteca becomes the first stadium in the history of world football to host three World Cup opening matches. Mexico go in off the back of eight successive unbeaten friendlies in 2026 — including wins over Ghana, Australia and Serbia. Guillermo Ochoa starts in goal — the only player from either side who was also there in 2010. Same fixture. Same goalkeeper. This time on Mexican soil.

The country that housed Iran's team in Tijuana. That gave ticket 00001 to a 21-year-old Indigenous woman. That told Washington no troops on its soil. That named its security plan after a Maya god. That lifted 13.5 million people out of poverty. That opened the EU trade deal. That signed the foreign interference amendment. That told the world, from a podium in front of 130,000 people: Mexico is not anyone's piñata. Today that country opens the World Cup for the third time. Today the world finds out whether the story it was told about Mexico was ever true.

When coaching children, winning matches is important, but it should never be the ultimate goal. Trophies are temporary. The love for football can last a lifetime.
A child who enjoys training, feels confident to make mistakes, and looks forward to the next session is developing something far more valuable than a league title. He is developing a lasting connection with the game.
Too often, adults focus on results, rankings, and statistics. Meanwhile, children are looking for something much simpler: enjoyment, learning, friendship, and the excitement of improving. When those elements disappear, many talented young players leave the game long before reaching their potential.
The best youth coaches understand that their real mission is not to create the best team at age 10. It is to help children become lifelong learners, lifelong players, and lifelong lovers of football.
Years from now, most children will not remember the score of a youth match. But they will remember how their coach made them feel.

👉 A child who loves football will keep playing. A child who only feels pressure may eventually walk away.
