“THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ELITE 8-YEAR-OLD.”

Some of us, including coaches and parents, need to hear this.

Dell Curry once pulled his sons, Steph and Seth, out of AAU basketball because he believed it was teaching them habits he didn’t want them developing. Instead, he brought them home, worked with them on the fundamentals and had them play in their community basketball league.

Steph and Seth Curry seem to be doing just fine today.

The belief that your child must play for a particular team, hire a certain trainer, attend every tournament or join the “best” program or else be left behind forever is simply not true.

Our children need time to develop. They need instruction, encouragement and the freedom to love the game. They should not have to carry the weight of their parents’ ambitions.

Every sports parent should ask themselves one question:

Does my child dread the ride home after a game?

If that is your child’s least favorite part of the week, something needs to change.

Youth sports should strengthen our relationships with our children, not damage them. Winning matters. Competition matters. Hard work matters. But none of those things matters more than our children knowing that we love and support them regardless of how they performed.

This message really hit home.

Every great player starts with the right foundation.

Syosset Flag Football is proud to partner with Elevate Flag Football for our new Boys Pre-K Division, giving our youngest players the opportunity to learn the game the right way from the very beginning.

Who is Elevate Flag Football?

Elevate is a Long Island-based flag football training organization led by experienced educators, varsity coaches, and championship-winning coaches who understand both the game and how to teach young athletes.

Why did we choose Elevate?

We wanted more than instructors who simply know football. We wanted coaches who understand how to teach children, communicate clearly, build confidence, and create a positive experience.

Elevate’s approach matches everything we want for our players: proper fundamentals, teamwork, character, confidence, and a fun, high-energy environment where every child feels included and supported.

Our Pre-K players will work on:

Throwing, catching, and handoff fundamentals
Safe, age-appropriate movement drills
Flag pulling and basic defense

Such a proud moment for our community!

Roslyn Flag Football was honored to serve as the main sponsor of this year’s GAME ON for Autism at East Hills Park. Now in its fifth year, this incredible event was founded by Roslyn’s own Justin Wasserman and benefits Camp Kehilla, Sid Jacobson JCC’s program supporting neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults ages 5–21 through a summer built around inclusion, play, and community.

As Co-League Operator of both Roslyn Flag Football and Syosset Flag Football, days like this remind me exactly why we do what we do: two sister leagues, one shared mission — showing up for every child in our communities, both on and off the field.

🏈 FALL REGISTRATION IS OPEN 🏈

Come see why our community leagues are growing.

Get your kids into the FUN league.

No scouting reports. No stacked rosters. No group chats lighting up on Tuesday night wondering if you're playing the "good team" on Sunday.

Just kids playing real, competitive games with their friends learning the game, and having fun.

We've already had a great response heading into our second season so thank you to everyone who's signed up! But we need to max out our divisions to build out real games and a full playoff structure this season. The more kids we get, the better the season is for every kid in it.

Every team is drafted fair, from scratch, every season — so every kid gets a real shot, and every coach starts from zero. Boys and girls divisions, grades K-7, all skill levels welcome.

New this fall: a Pre-K division! We already have a strong group of boys signed up & don't miss out, spots are filling fast.

Real games. Real playoffs. A Super Bowl party with pizza and trophies. Professionally lined fields with real yard markers. Multiple refs on every game, so the calls actually get made right. MVP awards are given out. It's competitive, it's organized, and it still feels like Saturday morning with your friends.
