September Class Series starts next week ! Sign up for your class !
Speaking of the class series. By breaking it up into pieces we have created different combinations of curriculum to address the training needs of lots of different people with different skill levels. Often they don't know what they need to learn.
Periodically I do get asked about other courses and USCCA has some of the better material of the "standardized" classes. USCCA does a class on defensive pistol. I used to be a USCCA certified instructor. I let it lapse as their material became less and less relevant here in NY, so it was difficult to sell enough books or have enough students to keep certified. I'm an NRA instructor as well but I don't teach pure NRA courses at this time. I would rather teach curriculum tailored for NY than follow a corporate formula. What do I mean?
Here is a list of topics covered in a USCCA defensive pistol class.
Understanding defensive context
Probability and self defense data
Home defense considerations
Ammunition and ballistics
Concealed carry considerations
Fundamentals of Defensive Marksmanship
Presentation From Concealment
The Balance of Speed & Precision
Defensive Response
Malfunctions & Single-Handed Shooting
We cover all of these in our class series. NY now requires 16 hours of class time and 2 hours at the range just to get a concealed permit. NY minimum requirements could be taught in 12 hours or less. I put much more than the minimum into our series. I can teach to multiple levels. Check out Dean's comments back in August. He was a Drill Sargent, and remarked "I used to teach this stuff" yet he learned more. I regularly have experienced shooters through the series and their feedback has been like Dean's, positive.
Remember the student from last month that did the minimums in another county with another instructor. The minimums were not enough to chose the best first gun and certainly not enough to feel confident with the gun they had purchased. To compensate for a physical disability (hand tremors) they had even taken a 2nd class before ours. Yet with a borrowed gun they learned enough to be confident, tremors and all! What path would you choose? The minimums? Where ever you are in your journey we can help you advance. But you have to take that step and sign up.

Class Gun Changes, Sig 320 issue..
Here at Cold Springs Precision we have a variety of war ready fi****ms for you to try as you learn skills and develop confidence. I can not predict which gun will be the best for you. No salesman, instructor, significant other, store clerk or even you ! just by feel alone can tell. Only live fire practice reveals that. Some instructors use just .22 or sirt guns. We use a variety of real guns to help you learn what is right for you. So the changes... The Sig 320 is coming out of the stable until the un-commanded discharge issue is sorted out. One police department has had 2 go off in their lockers, with no one around. Yikes ! There is too much evidence to ignore and Sig is not being forthright or just putting their head in the sand, so until we know more, its out of the stable. The Sig 365fuze is not effected by this move and it remains in the stable. Don't worry we have plenty of quality options, even some with red or green dot optics. Below is the Walther PDP Compact and R***r returns to the stable again with the RxM. Sign up for the right class and you get to try these and others. Next class series starts Monday, July 21. The classes that get to try out guns are the 18 hr concealed carry / prepermit required class for Onondaga/Madison County and Try before you Buy
