You’re almost certainly not an exception 🫠

1. More Time in Nature.

You’ve had plenty of screen time. Too much, most likely.

Go for a walk in the park, or if you can, prioritize a nice hike on a regular basis.

Away from distraction.

2. Proper Rest.

Soul rest.

Not scrolling. Not rotting. Not numbing. Not satiating.

When was the last time you felt genuinely rejuvenated?

These two things literally come up for every single client I’ve worked with. And, nearly all of my friends & peers. And myself included.

The reason is simple; these two things are foundational to our well-being, and they are two of the most neglected in our over-worked culture.

❄️ I find this tenderness within me, more and more that I reflect on things past & gone.

It’s precious & tender & vulnerable.

It comes with reflection & applying the reflective awareness onto the now moment.

Holding life tenderly is an art I hope to become evermore skilled in.

🌬️ Our breath. This ethereal, intangible-on-its-own whisper that keeps us alive.

Our breath is ever-present yet so subtle. The air we breath, like water to a fish, we’re surrounded & immersed but also somewhat numb and desensitized.

Most of the time, our breath is breathing us. Only when we assert control over our breath, are we breathing it.

🌬️Our breath is a relationship.

To me, it reminds me of my relationship with our Divine Nature.

The Grace of being alive is ephemeral yet ever-present. Our breath can remind us of this.

And when we shift our perception to our Breath breathing us, we can shift into the awareness that “I” am absolutely not at the center of this magnificent existence.

🌬️I cue this simple line in almost all of my yoga& meditation classes.

What does it evoke in you?

Anger is Clarifying Before it Becomes Volatile.

Anger used to terrify me. My body would automatically freeze and/or collapse when anyone around me expressed anger — this wonderful built-in survival system of my own body. All of our bodies have this nervous-system mechanism, there’s no shame in it.

For a significant portion of my life, I strongly identified as not* being an angry person.

(*to be discerned from identifying as a happy person. In this context, I moreso identified as a rejected part than a welcomed part.)

I saw how anger hurt people so easily and often with such cutting swiftness.

That hurt, once it occurs, can never be taken back.

It’s like trust — once we break it, it takes a lot to rebuild it — much more effort than if we were to simply maintain it well.

However, unbeknownst to my awareness, I wasn’t ‘not an angry person’…

I was just casting this incredibly important emotion into the shadows — into my unconscious awareness.

Anger is a fiercely, ferociously loving friend.

And when she is not listened to, she will come out with a vengeance.

I remember when I first really ‘touched’ my anger — It was terrifying — evenmoreso than feeling anyone else’s anger — because it was within my own self. I could not run or hide from it, as it was coming out of my own shadow.

We can’t run from our shadows forever ;) Remember trying to do this as a child when you first became aware of your shadow? Oh my! How fun & playful… then terrifying, then exhausting, then surrender. At least that’s how it went for me!

Contrary to many people, I absolutely love the long, dark nights of our PNW winter. (I didn't always though.)

It's a time where, when properly attuned to, we can dive deeply into our rich inner world... and deep embodied wisdom and truly aligned direction can arise.

We winter within ourselves.

Many people see hiberating trees as dead (Twice last week people said this to me. They are only appear dead to the untrained eye. They are in fact, deeply alive within.)

This false view happens for so many people who get stuck in over-doing, over-thinking, over-serving, over-eating, over-working, over-every-thing.

We become like hollow robots, instead of embodied, alive human beings.

This is when we get to remember the power of grace.

*The Being of our Doing.*

Grace is ephemeral. Subtle. Intangible. Too soft for hard people, who wish to stay hard.

Yet whenever we feel or see an example of grace, we can’t help but be mesmerized.

It’s perhaps the most unspeakable of any word, and though all language does fall short of any true experience, Grace in particular is perhaps the faintest of all experiences.

Yet, again, when we open to grace….
