I have a love for athletics, leadership, and learning new skills that has lead me to a diverse career as fitness professional. I began my career working in Sports Performance at RDV Sportsplex in Orlando FL. My thirst for knowledge led me to a yoga-fit certification. I was mesmerized how the mobility and stability of yoga transferred to strength, power, and endurance on the gym and in the field.

Day 4 Breath Awareness
Dangers of Mouth Breathing
Over-breathing a direct result of mouth breathing. It is by far the most common breathing dysfunction with over 50% of the population affected! Mouth breathing can lead to many problems listed in these photos.

Mouth Breathers are often stuck in fight or flight or sympathetic stress response. Learning to breathe properly through your nose will allow your body to elicit a parasympathetic response and return your body to homeostasis.
Mouth breathing can be used as part of your breathwork practice, but nasal breathing should be the way you should be breathing on a regular basis. As your respiratory skills progress there are many techniques that use mouth breathing. What’s important to understand now is the more you can breathe out of your nose, the more you will improve the 3 P’s of Breathwork. (Parasympathetic, Potential, Performance)

Beast Wave is a transitional exercise that teaches tension through the lats in the child pose, then the down dog, and then one vertebrae at a time. Is this yoga, is it primal? Who cares, this is one of my favorite exercises for intermediate level people to learn to link together movements.

I never thought I’d be able to do this movement.
“I’m too heavy”
“It’s not good for my old shoulder/elbow injury”
“Every other set limiting belief out there”
It’s scary to get out of your comfort zone, but the struggle is the way. My shoulder and elbow are better than they’ve been in years as been pursuing the proper ranges to develop gymnastics strength. It simply does not get more functional than learning to master your own body weight. I’m just starting to figures mine out at 40 and with 20 years of coaching. The point is, turn your cants into cans and take your struggles head on. The result is achieving things you thought were impossible and a lot of flow.
So close to owning this movement!

Lizard Plank->Down Dog->Reach

Mobility from opposite shoulder to opposite hip is everything. In this movement you can see how Krista gets full extension from her finger tips through her heals. The ownership of this line of strength means everything and opens up the play book. Regardless of your level you should pursue this movement. If you need to regress, go back to the inch worm, or attend a yoga class. They will trick you into dozens of yoga burpees to build up your base. You have to have a pattern to correct a pattern.

The inch worm is a foundational movement of the squat flow program. Most of us have very tight ankles, hamstrings, and hips. We also struggle to link our lats, abdominals, and glutes together “LAB”. This is a bang for your buck exercise that builds strength, mobility, and teaches the patterns necessary to lock in the “glute LAB”
A must do exercise if I want to perform at my best.

You can do exercises, or you can learn how to synchronize movements. This session with the one and only @djjazzyliza shows many methods in which I teach her how to establish her back line. Lisa is very strong, but has suffered from back pain. She is overcoming it because she is learning how to fire her lats, abs, and glutes together in many different angels. The indo board is there to make it fun and drive her into the present. We train not just for the gains, but what it does for our brains. This is a flow inducing( fun session, that happens to be outside and sunrise.

Day 30 Sharpen the Saw
Today marks the end of the 30 Day EFD adventure. It’s time to reflect, plan new goals, and rest.
Rest is part of the growth equation. Also understand that a negative emotion is a chemical signal of an unmet need. Part of this process is about raising your awareness. When you are out of balance, how can you bring yourself back? MBC is a method of sharpening the saw and a key component of the Stress + Rest = Growth equation. Having awareness to recharge your batteries or better yet prioritizing these opportunities will prevent the crashing of your wave. Our bodies crave balance, yet we ignore the check engine lights and power through. You have permission to rest. You don’t have to fix everything right now. You can choose what is best for you in the present moment. Rest can you move you closer to your goal. You don’t have to make anyone else happy. You can make yourself happy by moving closer to your goals. Your body will perform its best, recover it’s best, and look it’s best when you are in homeostasis
