I recently injured myself in the dumbest way possible. I was at a water park and fell and landed funny (a lot of knee flexion & some valgus and immediately heard a pop). At the moment, I thought it was a ligamentous injury but it seems like it’s muscular in nature. Not that I care too much about the details tbh.
If I didn’t know everything that I know, I probably would’ve gotten imaging to figure out exactly what happened.
That alone would’ve probably lead to overmedicalization and overtreatment, both of which are unnecessary.
Thankfully, I can self manage this on my own so I thought it was a good idea to show others how you can treat this same issue on your own.
The same framework that I’m using for this injury can be applied to the vast majority of MSK injuries.

Exercise & physical activity are one of the best things that you can do for your overall health.
With that being said, exercise is not therapy. Therapy is therapy. Exercise can have therapeutic effects, but it’s not actual therapy.
It’s tough for people with depression to participate in exercise regularly. But if you can find a way to slowly reintroduce exercise into your daily life, the benefits will be 100% worth it.

Today marks three years since we started Strength Rehab. 🤯
It's been extremely fun making evidence-based content surrounding fitness & MSK rehabilitation.
We started this platform because we both shared a passion to teach others. We had no idea our content would make it across the globe.
We’d never imagine that our podcast would be ranked in the top 5% podcasts of the world.
Fast forward 3 years and we’re working as clinicians, we started teaching our course, and more big plans are in the near future.
This has only possible through the support that all of you have given us.
THANK YOU!

The majority of injuries happen when we do too much too soon after doing too little for too long.
This is a simple analogy that I’ve used with many clients in the past.
Helping people make sense of their pain experience & of what’s going on is very important for me as a clinician.
This is a great & easy way to explain how graded exposure can create positive adaptations.

Dealing with chronic pain can be very tough. Especially because pain affects every single aspect of life.
People with chronic pain tend to socially isolate, they stop participating from meaningful activities, and their mental health can also take a toll.
It’s important to keep this in mind when treating patients with chronic pain.
Stop addressing “poor” movement patterns, tight muscles, or asymmetries. Start addressing what matters the most.
Trust me. It’ll make a big difference.

If you wanna be the best clinician or coach, you gotta educate yourself outside of the classroom.
School is great & it’ll teach you important stuff, but it won’t teach you everything you need or should learn.
That is the main goal with our course. We want to teach you what school doesn’t teach you.
Things such as communication, setting up expectations, meeting clients where they’re at, how to blend S&C concepts for rehab purposes, how to rx exercise in the rehab setting, & more.
What is something that school didn’t teach you that you’d like to learn about?

“It’s not the load that breaks you. It’s the load that you’re not prepared for.”
The majority of injuries happen when we do too much too soon after doing too little for too long.
Before blaming a specific movement for your pain or injury, try zooming out & see the big picture.
Has there been an increase in volume, intensity, or frequency?

You don’t need to spend 10-15 minutes doing weird warmups.
My favorite way to warmup (& my recommendation to clients) is to do the same movement that they’re gonna do but to do it at lighter intensities.
There’s no need to do random exercises that have no translation to whatever it is that you’re gonna do.
Doing the same movement at lighter intensities:
▫️brings blood to the area
▫️is specific to the task that you’re gonna perform
It doesn’t get better than that!

It’s easy to get lost & over focused on the day to day fluctuations.
But just like in the stock market, our mentality should always be:
long term > short term
