We really should have cracked down on illegal emotos and unrestricted ebikes years ago. Unfortunately now with public outcry, cities are passing overly restrictve legislation that affects legal ebikes and pedal bikes. Chandler has banned legal ebikes from all off street paths. Gilbert passed a 15mph speed limit on all off street paths which includes pedal bicyclists. Speed limits make sense in parks and downtown cores where foot traffic exists. Much of the path network through Maricopa county is a veritable ghost town. One can ride miles and never encounter another person. Limits on these paths beyond the existing limits on legal ebikes is disingenuous and an affront to bicycling and alternative transportation. We need sensible legislation regarding access as depicted. This post isn't intended to garner social media engagement, it's meant as food for thought, thus we have closed comments. We will be having a conversation with state reps to work towards a sensible state law instead of a patchwork of city laws.

Unfortunately someone grossly miscalculated the scope of work on this project. The College Avenue pedestrian bridge was to be open starting 5/8. Daytime closures have now been extended to 6/14 and this week it has been closed round the clock for some sort of more involved task that's blocking the approach path on the south side. The detour involves going west over to the Mill Avenue bridge on neighborhood streets just north and south of the freeway.
