We talk a lot about weight loss and the importance of exercise but seldom do we talk about weight gain. We understand it's just as hard for those to put on weight as it is for others to lose. Some tips for the seemingly "lucky" ones out there, increase your carbohydrate intake to equate to about 50% of your daily intake and switch to a full body split alternating between upper body and lower body until your body needs a rest day. Repeat until you're jacked and tan.
There are many reasons to exercise while pregant. Our top 10 reasons are...
1. Labor and delivery may be easier due to stong abs and a fit cardiovascular system
2. You're less likely to experience lower back pain which is caused from anterior pelvic tilt and weight gain
3. Odds are, you'll deliver a leaner baby
4. You're more likely to avoid a forceps delivery, C-section or other intervention
5. You lower your gestational diabetes risk by as much as 27 percent
6. Your labor may be shorter. Studies show women who exercise throughout their pregnancy experience two hours less of time in labor than those who don't exercise
7. You'll likely experience less leg swelling by improving blood flow
8. You may be less prone to morning sickness
9. Your child may develop a healthier heart
10. You may be at lower risk for the number 1 cause of premature birth, preeclampsia, which is directly related to high blood pressure and excess protein in the urine

On a serious note, when you know you'll be over indulging for a special event or occasion you can take different steps to prepare.
Here are some options:
1) Skip breakfast - yes.. skip breakfast. When were looking specifically at caloric intake, missing your first meal leaves you with plenty calories for later in the evening.
2) Substitute a protein shake for a meal - your average protein powder contains roughly 100 calories if it doesn't have any additives. That gives you enough energy to get by for the day with no fat and carbohydrates which will be plentiful later on.
3) Cardio in the morning - the key here is to not think of it as a punishment but rather a way to utilize your extra calories. Make it fun by going on a hike or riding a bike around town.
