Let's Move Some Weight!

Michael has been putting in a lot of work on his technique and strength. He is a thrower for Desert Vista. He told me last night that his standing throw from last season to now had improved about 6’. (Track season just started). Here he is with an 83 kg snatch from the blocks which was his maximum from the floor a couple months ago.

This young man is getting after it on his winter break. Mountain View high school freshman walked in to train and learn weightlifting. He has shown good progress over the past couple weeks. 44kg snatch.

This young lady had a stellar performance today in the jerk. She really picked it up a ran with it. She started with us a few weeks ago. We are teaching the basics of weightlifting and building technical proficiency. We walked away from the state championships today with two gold medals. We are on our way to Las Vegas for the USA Weightlifting American open series 3 competition in 5 weeks. #whatisyoutgoldmedal

This has been a long time coming. Leif has been working hard for this movement. Today Leif completed a full snatch from the ground. When he started with us he couldn’t put his arms over his head or squat to full depth let alone overhead squat. He stayed the course working with a technique bar, learning the movements and breaking down his motor patterns. As a coach this is what I live for, helping people get to a point they never thought possible. Great job Leif.

With young athletes core stability is important. We build through core strength through dynamic strength movements. I was taught to build the strength to hold position and the strength to move through position. Movement first, speed and load later

Show up! Going to the same field, gym, pool, or training facility everyday can become very static. What happens there depends on you. You are dynamic, you can change, improve, and dominate. Have a growth mindset and strive for more because your sport doesn’t change only you do.

Training can seem like a never ending tunnel. You walk and walk but the end never seems to come. Some days you’re running towards the end and others you’re crawling. Do what ever it takes to get to the end.

Learn to let go of inhibition and allow for success. When learning complex movements it is easy to get caught up in all the small details and think about every little nuance you need to do. We teach the snatch through a number of progressions and over the course of a few weeks so that by the time you start snatching you have learned what the motor pattern is. Do not micromanage your lifts, allow for the program to take over.

Moving forward into the next week of training, remember what you are training for, to conquer your goals. To become successful you have to succumb to your weaknesses, attack them, make them stronger before your rivals expose them. Be comfortable being uncomfortable

Training doesn’t start and stop at the door or entrance of the gym or field. Train hard and recover harder. Nutrition is literally what fuels your training. Don’t approach it haphazardly
