VILLAGE BISON CAP PERFECT SEASON WITH FALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Village Bison Senior Baseball team continues to raise the bar. After capturing last fall’s championship and winning the 2026 spring championship of the Tampa Senior Baseball League, the Bison added another accomplishment to their growing list of successes by completing an undefeated fall season and claiming first place in the league’s 60-and-over division.

The Bison put the finishing touches on their perfect season Sunday in Land O’ Lakes, rolling to a convincing 19-5 victory over the Tampa Crusaders in their final regular-season game.

With rainouts and cancellations disrupting much of the fall schedule, the Bison made the most of a beautiful Sunday afternoon, doing what they have done all season — swinging the bats with authority.

After pounding out 22 hits in an 18-5 league victory the previous week, the Bison topped that performance with a remarkable 25-hit attack against the Crusaders.

Village Bison wasted little time taking control, scoring three runs in the first inning, adding two in the second and plating three more in the third to build an 8-0 advantage. When the Crusaders turned to a new pitcher in the fourth, the Bison continued their offensive assault, pushing across five runs to extend the lead to 13-0.

Starting pitcher Willie Castro kept the Crusaders off the scoreboard and without a hit through the first four innings. The Bison added two more runs in the top of the fifth to make it 15-0 before Tampa finally broke through with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Bison continued to add to its lead over the final four innings, scoring four additional runs while the Crusaders managed three, sealing the 19-5 victory and an unbeaten finish to league play.

The offense featured contributions throughout the lineup, with three players collecting three hits apiece. Jay Loving led the way with two doubles and a single, while Carlos Padilla and Carmine D’Agostino also recorded three hits each.

Randy Pawlowski, Gary Lynn, Dave Conrad, Steve Lloyd, Willie Castro and Gary Rima each added two hits. Vinny Zarrella, Joe Kasper, Fred Millar and Jimmy Kitzler rounded out the 25-hit performance with one hit apiece.

While the Bison offense provided plenty of fireworks, Castro delivered a strong performance on the mound, going the distance for the nine-inning victory. He allowed five runs on six hits, walked one batter and overcame three errors by the Bison defense to secure the win. Greg Lovell took the loss for the Crusaders.

With Sunday’s victory, the Village Bison finished atop the Tampa Senior Baseball League’s 60-and-over division with a perfect 6-0 record, capping another championship-caliber season.

The Bison will now turn their attention to the Roy Hobbs 65-and-Over World Series, scheduled for Nov. 8-14. The tournament will feature 42 teams competing for the championship, with games played at the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox spring training complexes, as well as Historic Terry Park all in Fort Myers, Florida.

After championships in the fall and spring and now an undefeated fall campaign, the Village Bison head into their next challenge with plenty of momentum — and an offense that has shown it can put runs on the board in bunches.

VILLAGE BISON SCORE EARLY & OFTEN TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

The Village Bison returned to action Sunday at Elsie Logan Memorial Ballpark in Spring Hill, taking on the Tampa Stars in Tampa Senior Baseball League action. After a four-week layoff due to rainouts and cancellations, the Bison were eager to get back on the field—and their bats were ready!

The long break did little to slow down the Bison offense, as they pounded out 22 hits and scored in every inning to cruise to an impressive 18-5 victory over the Tampa Stars. Although the game was played away from their home field at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg, the Bison served as the home team for the contest.

The Stars struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Bison quickly answered with four runs in the bottom half to take control. Tampa added a run in the second, only to see the Bison respond with two more and extend their lead to 6-2.

The Stars made things interesting in the third, scoring three runs to pull within one at 6-5. However, the Bison answered once again, adding a two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to make it 8-5.

From there, the Bison pitching staff shut the door, holding the Stars scoreless the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the Village offense kept rolling, plating one more run in the fourth inning, the maximum five runs in the fifth inning before adding four more in the sixth to put the game away. The final score: Village Bison 18, Tampa Stars 5!

Four Pitchers Combine for the Win

Steve Lloyd got the start and earned the win after pitching the first two innings. Randy Pawlowski handled the third, and Dave Steere delivered a scoreless fourth inning. Willie Castro then took over and tossed the final three innings, keeping the Stars off the scoreboard in the last three stanza’s to close out the victory.

22 Hits Fuel the Offensive Attack

The Bison lineup delivered a big day at the plate, with three players collecting three hits apiece.

* Vinny Zarrella got on base four out of four times! He had three hits, including a triple, drew a walk and scored three runs.
* Joe Kasper reached base in all four plate appearances, collecting three hits and a walk while scoring three runs.
* Carlos Padilla, batting leadoff, added three hits, including a double, and scored twice.
* Jay Loving was 4-4 on base today also! Jay had two hits, including a double, reached on an error, drew a walk and scored a game-high four runs.
* Dave Conrad reached base in all four plate appearances with two hits and two walks, scoring twice.
* Gary Lynn returned to the lineup and contributed two hits.
* Willie Castro helped himself at the plate with a double to go along with his strong pitching performance.

Randy Pawlowski, Robb Herron, Dave Steere, Jimmy Kitzler, Dwight Huffman and Fred Millar each added a hit to the Bison’s 22-hit offensive explosion.

One Game Left in the Fall Season!

With Sunday’s victory, the Village Bison improve to 5-0 and remain unbeaten! The team will look to finish the fall season strong next Sunday with a 9:00 a.m. matchup against the Crusaders in Land O’ Lakes.
