Fb world, it’s been a minute. Here’s a quick little rundown on and the stumble reflex. Shout out to the guy for being such a reactive 🐆 and inspiring this post!
Accelerate Athletics
Athletic physical preparation company servicing the 518. Speed, strength, vision, mobility, injury prevention, we do it all!
Years ago, a click or two after the dawn of social media, I thought coaching was just knowing a whole bunch of information. The guru on top of the mountain, yoda on degobah, you get the picture.
Through trial and mostly error, I’ve switched my stance. Sure I want to learn more, but bigger than that, I want the kids I work with to know and understand WAY more than they did before we started.
What’s the use of knowing anything worthwhile if you can’t articulate it. Furthermore, what’s the point if the athletes you work with have no idea what you are doing and why you are doing it.
Odds are I’ll probably never be anyone’s “forever” coach. And I don’t think at this stage I’d even want to be. Young athletes should experience every flavor of coaching style under the sun. Good, bad, quiet, loud, see it all, taste the rainbow, figure it out.
I think that’s where I am now. I try to have the athletes I train enjoy it, understand it and ultimately be able to teach others as well.
Sample speed/agility/cod workout. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should be done maximally with some fun/competitive components to it. First we have some max effort linear sprints. We followed this with a partner chase drill where the lead player has to go opposite of where the person hiding behind the box or mat is set up. Lastly we have a fun 5 min bout of a elementary school game that also happens to be a tremendous change of direction challenge. Yes, we ended with some sharks and minnows 😉😂.

Sport-Specific or “Culture-Specific”? - Complementary Training Recently a friend of mine and a fellow physical preparation coach, who was working with futsal and was preparing Olympic level Judokas, got an offer to take care of a pro basketball team. Since I was the one recommending him to the agent, I was questioned would he be a good fit, taking into account....
Oh look, another shoeless running video 😉. Summer hours are starting up. HMU if you are looking to step your game up a notch this off-season. Been doing this a while and I’ll stand by that I’m still the best in the #518 at developing .
Coaching vs over coaching and youth athletes. My two cents.
A little long, but never done one of these before. Athletes..EMBRACE THE SUCK! Find a part of your game that’s holding you back and get better at it!
Relative ain’t the only factor in impressive displays…..but it sure don’t hurt
1) tugging a couple 100 pounds over his body weight
2) floating up to a 60” box
Success leaves clues people. Get strong, jump and sprint, be an athlete

The process of guiding athletes can be considered “facilitating” as much as it is “active coaching”. Give athletes space to learn on their own… which is the learning that truly counts.
