Civano Cycling CLUB
PROMOTE CYCLING AND FRIENDLY EXERCISE AND CAMERADERIE IN TUCSON.
On March 9th six of us rode in the Northeast side of Tucson. Mark, Brian, James, Tom, Dan and Steve did this challenging ride. There were more up hills than downhills. The weather was perfect 65 when we started and 77 when we finished. We stopped at LeBuzz for some refreshments and the place was full of cyclists. That is a good thing. There was only one place we crossed that had water in it but it wasn't very deep. This ride was 37 miles and we all finished. This proves that all our riding has paid off. It is finally starting to warm up in Tucson so we can get back to riding 3 days a week. Our next ride will be on Sunday March 12th. We will ride to Coffee Exchange and back about 22 miles.
Today five of us rode down to the Coffee Exchange and back. At 6:30 AM it was only 62 degrees. COLD I wore my jacket and I'm glad I did. There were beautiful blue skies and no wind riding North. At Coffee Exchange I met some friends of mine from where I used to work. I haven't seen them in many years, It was great to catch up on what they have been up to. We also had a new rider join our group his name is Tom Tarter and he lived in Civano since 2012. This coming week we plan to ride the entire Bike Loop which is 57 miles. We will Stop and eat and rest along the route.
Today we started training for the 62 mile El Tour de Tucson cycling event on Nov 19th. This is a charity ride for over 60 different charities. There are about 6,000 to 9,000 Rider for this event. One can ride 102 miles, 62 miles and 25 miles. We are training for the 62 mile event. Today we rode 41 miles. On Tuesday we will ride 45 miles. We have 6 weeks to get our rides up to 62 miles. Should not be a problem. Our weather here in Tucson is finally cooling off. High temperatures in low 90's and low temperatures in mid 60's with plenty of sunshine. I will take some pictures for my next post.

This was the group that rode to the backside of the Tucson Fairgrounds on Tuesday. It was a bit chilly about 62 when we left and only 68 when we finished. The ride was 25 miles with a slight breeze both ways.
January 16th ride today was great. We had the biggest turnout 10 riders. We rode to Coffee Exchange and back. It was a total of 21 miles. The weather was a bit breezy at first then it slowed down for our way back. Temperature at 11 AM was mid 60's but the ride home was in low 70's, just right. Next ride on Tuesday Jan 18th.

On Sunday Oct 24th Dan, Gion and Mark took a 47 mile ride. We started in Civano rode to the Bike Loop South to the Julian Wash Bike Loop. From there we rode West to Wilmot. Turned South on Wilmot rode under the freeway all the way to Sahuarita Rd. Total distance to this point was 20 miles. We rode West on Sahuarita Rd to Old Nogales Hwy. Made a right turn onto Nogales Hwy and rode to Lindy's restaurant on 4th Ave. It was a perfect day for a ride sunny blue sky's and temp in low 80's. Our total mileage was 47. We were hungry and thirsty and their burgers were great.
Our Thursday's ride was very nice. The temperature at 6 AM was in the low 70's and a bit cloudy. We rode the Bike Loop North to Brandi Fenton Park which is near River and Dodge. The water was still flowing in the Rillito River from bank to bank. That is something that doesn't happen very often. On the way back we stopped at Le Buzz Coffee Shop on Swan and Ft Lowell. After refueling we rode home. Total ride was 32 miles. We will start ridding longer rides in preparations for 57 mile El Tour de Tucson on November 20th.

This is the Rillito River with water in it a week after all the rain we got. Seven of us Dan, Dale, Marlys, Kevin, Gian, Jim and Mark rode to Swan Rd and back. Total miles 27.6. We stopped at Coffee Exchange and met Stephanie there. It was a great ride.
If you are thinking about riding in the El Tour de Tucson we need to start training for it now. Let me know who is interested in this.
