Finding Connection Through Single Leg Work 🖤

FP Director Kyria verbally guides Lauren through Single Leg Standing in Parallel with Upper Contraction on the Wunda Chair.

This sequence brings together balance, strength, and whole-body organization, asking the standing leg to create a stable foundation allowing freedom of movement for the working leg.

Through clear verbal cueing, Kyria guides Lauren toward greater awareness of alignment, breath, and the relationship between the upper and lower body reminding us that even a challenging movement begins with thoughtful organization.

Movement guided by precision, connection, and the Fletcher approach to the Pilates method. ✨

Movement Monday 🖤

Amber moves through Spine Stretch with the Towel from the Fletcher Matwork Syllabus.

Using the towel as a source of feedback, this sequence encourages length through the spine, organized shoulder support, and a deeper connection to breath. The resistance of the towel invites clarity through the upper body while promoting articulation, expansion, and purposeful movement.

A study in precision, organization, and expressive movement through the Fletcher approach to the Pilates method. ✨

Why We Wear Black 🖤

Ever wonder why Fletcher Pilates teachers traditionally wear fitted black when we teach and attend workshops?

It goes back to Ron Fletcher.

Ron didn’t want to be distracted by color, pattern, or loose clothing. He wanted to clearly see the body, the lines of movement, and the work itself. He appreciated the simplicity and minimalist aesthetic; less about matching sets or the latest trend, and more about movement, breath, and concentration.

In many ways, it was about the inner rather than the outer.

As Fletcher teachers, we continue that tradition. We wear fitted black so we don’t call attention to ourselves while teaching, and so our demonstrations are clean, clear, and easy to see.

But don’t worry, we love color, too! 🎨🖌️✨ We’ll let ours shine through with an occasional Whimsical Wednesday and Fun Fletcher Friday. 🦄

“Breath is life.” — Ron Fletcher 🖤

In this rare archival moment, Ron Fletcher reflects on the role of Breathwork in the Pilates method:

“The breath vitalizes the movement and gives it a total different dimension to the work.”

For Ron, breath was never simply an accompaniment to movement—it was the force that gave the work vitality, rhythm, and expression. It organized the body, informed each transition, and transformed movement into a fully embodied experience.

A timeless reminder that when we breathe with intention, the work comes alive. ✨

Shoulder Mobility Series | Part 2 🖤

Continuing our exploration of shoulder mobility, FP Director Kyria uses the Fletcher Towel to encourage functional movement and greater range through the shoulder girdle.

The towel offers both feedback and resistance, inviting the shoulders to move with more awareness while maintaining connection through the rest of the body. With thoughtful organization and breath, greater range becomes an exploration of both mobility and control.

Ron Fletcher emphasized the importance of regularly moving the shoulders through their full range of motion—a practice that supports not only healthy movement, but the freedom and expressiveness of the body.

A reminder that mobility is something we can continue to explore, refine, and maintain throughout our practice. ✨

Movement Monday 🖤

FP Teacher Alan moves through Back Support on the Reformer.

This powerful sequence explores posterior chain strength, shoulder organization, and expansive lift while emphasizing breath, precision, and coordinated support through the center. With each repetition, the work encourages both stability and openness, creating a dynamic balance between strength and mobility.

A beautiful expression of control, confidence, and the Fletcher approach to the Pilates method. ✨
