Have you been following the Little League World Series?

One of the big stories has been the performance of 12-year-old Kinley Rasmus for the Southeastern U.S. team from Phenix City, Ala., which plays this afternoon in an elimination game.

Kinley is a girl. And she's been one of the best players in the tournament so far. She is the 26th girl to compete in the LLWS and has tied the strikeouts record for girls with 14, which was previously set by Mo'ne Davis in 2014.

I love this story. Rasmus's father and uncle both played in the big leagues.

Building Something Special in Tupelo! ⚾🐯

I want to give a huge shout-out to our 10U, 11U, 12U, and 13U coaches for all the hard work and dedication they have put in this summer. We are finally getting our rosters set and are getting ready to compete in tournaments!

Our goal from the beginning has been to keep our teams as close to home as possible while making baseball as affordable as we can for our players and their families. I’m proud to say we have accomplished that goal by not charging additional team fees.

Our coaches have also made the decision to volunteer their time rather than receive coaching salaries. By doing this, we have saved our teams thousands of dollars throughout the season. We know there are still costs associated with being part of Rawlings, uniforms, and tournament fees, which will be divided among the players. However, when you consider that these boys are playing for a national baseball organization, I believe we have created a tremendous opportunity at a very reasonable cost.

When it comes to fields and indoor training facilities, I’ve been fortunate enough to have the land available to build on, along with sponsors and Rawlings helping us with construction, maintenance, and other needs. It truly takes a community effort to make something like this possible.

We are not just building baseball teams—we are building something special for the players, families, and baseball community of Tupelo, Mississippi.

The Grass Isn’t Always Greener

Let’s have an honest conversation about travel baseball costs in Mississippi.

Travel ball fees can vary widely depending on the age group, organization, level of competition, and how much traveling a team does. Many families are paying anywhere from $500 to $2,500+ per season, with some spending $1,000 to $5,000+ per year once you add tournaments, uniforms, hotels, gas, food, and other expenses.

Here’s where some of that money goes:

* Team and registration fees: $100–$500 for basic local or part-time tournament teams, while more competitive select programs can charge $500–$2,000+.
* Tournament fees: A single weekend tournament can cost a team $200–$400+ just for entry, which is then divided among the players.
* Uniforms and equipment: Customized jerseys, pants, hats, socks, helmets, and other gear can easily add another $30–$150+ per player.
* Travel and lodging: Gas, hotels, food, and other travel expenses can add $1,000–$3,000+ per year depending on how far and how often a team travels.

And here’s my point:

I’m not charging families anywhere near what many programs are charging.

Yet I still have people show up, take up my time, take up my players’ time, ask questions, go through the process, and then decide they want to chase something else because they think the grass is greener on the other side.

Let me tell you something:

The grass isn’t necessarily greener. Sometimes it’s just more expensive because you’re paying more green for it. 💵🌱

At Rawlings Tigers Tupelo, my goal isn’t to take advantage of families. My goal is to give these kids an opportunity to learn, develop, compete, grow, and get exposure while building a program they can be proud to be part of.

Rawlings Tigers is a nationally recognized baseball organization with opportunities and resources that can open doors for players. We have access to competitive tournaments, exposure opportunities, development, and an organization that has already built a name in youth baseball.

I believe in what we are building here in Tupelo.

And honestly, I shouldn’t have to beg anyone to be part of it.

I want players and families who see the value, believe in the process, and want to build something together.

I’m not promising that every kid is going to become a professional baseball player. What I can promise is that I’m going to work to give our players the best opportunity I can, teach them the game, push them to improve, and help them understand what it means to be a good teammate and a good person.

I want this team to grow together—not just for one season, but for years.

So before you decide that another organization must be better because it charges more, look at what you’re actually getting for your money.

More expensive does not automatically mean better.

The goal is not to spend the most money. The goal is to get the most value for your child.

Wanted to share this message for the women on our page from a baseball family member in Kansas. To baseball family and to the baseball moms.

Nobody really tells you that one day you'll pack up the chairs for the last time.

One day you'll fold that dirt-stained jersey, wipe the red clay from a pair of cleats, toss the glove in the backseat, and realize another baseball season has quietly become a memory.

You'll miss so much more than the game.

You'll miss the moms who became your people. The women who saved your seat when you were running late, shared their snacks, loaned you sunscreen, celebrated your child like he was their own, and somehow became family without either of you realizing it.

You'll miss watching all of "your boys" grow. The little kids who once looked swallowed up by their uniforms now standing a little taller, hitting a little harder, laughing a little louder. Somewhere along the season, they stopped being just teammates. They became brothers.

You'll miss dragging wagons full of equipment, the coaches pouring their hearts into kids who weren't their own, the little siblings running around the ballpark until the lights came on, and the grandparents who never missed a chance to cheer from the stands.

You'll miss the smell of fresh-cut grass mixed with dirt and sunflower seeds. The sound of the bat connecting with the ball. The click of cleats on concrete. The buzz of the scoreboard. The field lights glowing against a summer sunset as everyone secretly hoped the game wouldn't end just yet.

You'll even miss the things you swore you wouldn't.

The 5 a.m. alarms.
The hundred-degree tournament weekends.
The endless laundry covered in red dirt.
The coolers, chairs, wagons, helmets, gloves, bats, and bags that somehow took over your entire vehicle.
The long drives home with exhausted kids asleep in the backseat.

Because those were the moments that became your life.

Baseball isn't just a sport.

It's Monday nights that turn into lifelong friendships.

It's weekends that become traditions.

It's hugs after heartbreaking losses and tears after unforgettable wins.

It's watching children grow into young men while somehow realizing we were growing right alongside them.

The scoreboard eventually goes dark.
The cheers fade.
The fields grow quiet.

But the memories... the friendships... the lessons... and the love built between these families never leave.

To every baseball mom... thank you for every snack packed, every uniform washed, every mile driven, every loud cheer, every silent prayer, and every tear you tried to hide.

We thought we were signing our kids up to play baseball.

Instead, we found a family.

And if I had to do every hot, exhausting, chaotic, beautiful moment all over again...

I'd never choose to be anywhere else.
