Shark Bite Gear is a business I decided to start up because of the love I have for Greyhounds, sewing and baking. It made sense to cater to the pups I love and to share with others. It has been a very rainy day today but we managed to get a couple of pictures in. Tea wasn't to pleased, she thought she was melting!

I know many of you have lost a beloved animal, so you know how hard this was to post. Through tears, I needed to honor the BESTEST boy ever to enter our lives. Today he celebrates his 13th Birthday at the Rainbow Bridge. I am sure he has his Sherriffs badge on & watching out for any rough housing.

And it’s going to be not only a beautiful day, but also an indoor event!! That’s right - INDOORS!! Come browse through our vendors for all of your dog holiday shopping and get those Christmas Cards checked off the To Do List!!
Plus, check out our small raffle that will be going on to help us raise funds for Lucas’ leg surgery. We also have adoptable hounds to meet! We will also be accepting any and all physical donations that day! We are specifically looking for dry food, gently used (or new) jackets/jammies for our fosters, and of course monetary donations are always welcome.

Sweety got Horsey off Keima's memorial table. I let her barrow him whenever she feels the need to be with his scent, she still misses him. 😔 ❤️

Hard to believe its been a year...
With his family & pack surrounding him with love, Keima peacefully went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 20, 2021.
At 6:04 pm we will light a candle in memory of our special guy...

Sweety decided to go over to Keima's memorial table and take his stuffed rat for a walk in the pen and do some zoomies for him.
Sweety has for the past year taken the Rat & Mr. Horsey for a toss or two in the living room, then fall asleep with them. She grew very close to Keima & him her for the short time they were together. It will be a year tomorrow Aug. 20 since his passing. ❤💔🥰

Join the fun this Saturday, July 30, from 11 am until 2 pm, on our very favorite day of the year, when the Fast Friends’ grounds are full of adopted dogs and their people! There will be vendors, a pot-luck lunch, and a non-denominational Blessing of the Hounds to close out a fun afternoon. If the weather permits, we will open the dog park and have pools out for the dogs.
We will be serving up hot dogs and hamburgers from the grill and cold drinks for lunch. Please bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share.
The Reunion is held rain or shine, and we will move the festivities into our large downstairs multipurpose room in case the weather doesn’t cooperate.

My Mom gave me this ornament in remembrance of our sweet boy Keima who passed a few months ago...made me cry, but I love it!
We always called Keima, "King Keima", because in our eyes & his packs, he was KING!!👑❤️

I saw this today and read it through tears.
This is how I felt with our Keima and when he was diagnosed with bone cancer, I knew time was very short. I wasn't ready to let him go, it was all surreal.
Keima told us when HE was ready...his chapter here had ended.
We will never really be ready to let go...so enjoy every moment you have with them, for we never know when they will be called to the rainbow bridge.

Living with a very old dog means feeling your heart speeding up every time you see them a little more stiller than usual and approaching with the fear that they have stopped breathing.
Living with a very old dog means being aware that some of the things you'll do together may be the last.
Living with a very old dog means thinking ′′ this is their last summer ", ′′ this is their last July ", ′′ This could be the last morning".
Living with a very old dog means they bark at any noise at any time, not because they know what they are barking at, its they feel they need to bark and let us know.
Living with a very old dog means, you have to lift them up into the truck, the bed, the couch, the stairs.
Living with a very old dogs means putting off commitments because it's important to be close to them.
Living with a old dog means we trip over them because they are so sound asleep they don't hear us approaching them.
Living with a old dog means accidents in the house, its ok they don't mean to do it.
Living with a very old dog means feeling guilty because you know you could have done more, giving them more runs, more travel, more hugs, more caresses, more everything.
I would like to say that living with a very old dog also puts us in the face of our own death, fragility, vulnerability.
Living with a very old dog means we got to experience life with a very old dog, which is one of the best joys on earth!

This is a tough one to post, I apologize for the length....
On Friday August 20, 2021 @ 6:04pm Keima "Wild Shark Bite"earned his wings. We had the vet come to the house. The pack got to stay with him through the whole process. They knew Keima was very ill, Teacup would lay with him and one day dropped a stuffed bunny next to him. They are smart and need closure like we did.
This to all of us was the last loving gift we could give our sweet boy. For him to see the ones that loved him fully and for the whole family to be there for his last breath.
Keima was diagnosed on July 27, 2021 with bone cancer and this one was fast acting.
Unfortunately amputation was not in his cards. Some years back he broke his hock and had to have a few surgeries. Because of that he would not have been able to support himself with amputation.
Through his past surgeries and bone cancer he never cried out in pain. He was such a stoic dog and gave the cancer a good fight. He let us know he was ready to go...he was to tired to go on.
Keima was our first greyhound to come into our home in 2013. It was love at first sight. He is the reason I started my business, Shark Bite Gear. I always called him my business partner and made sure he got some perks. So for me personally, this has hit me extra hard.
I will always consider him my heart dog even though he was Shauns dog. I would call myself Grandmamma to all the pups except Teacup, she is my girl.
I thank my son Shaun Powers a million times over for bringing Keima into our lives and giving us the Love for Greyhounds.
I had to step away from social media to focus on Keima. Seeing people post the loss of their greyhounds was to much to bare, knowing I was losing my boy too. I feel all of their devastation now when they lost their hounds. It Feels like a piece of your heart is missing.
Nala our small dog had a special bond with Keima. He was her protector and she trusted him fully. She would always lay with him and he didn't mind...they were Besties.
Keima was a laid back boy, he never really played with the others. He enjoyed being the FUN police. We called him the "Sheriff", he even had a sheriff collar and badge!
His most treasured stuffies were the Horsey and Mr. Caterpillar. Poor Horsey must have gotten many headaches from being flipped around the house.
My most favorite memories of Keima is every morning when I went to go downstairs Keima would be cocking his head to the side ears perked up. When he saw it was me he would jump up and do the 2 step dance and bark and bark, grab Horsey and toss him around!
That memory is forever planted in my heart.
Keima also LOVED my bed. Towards the end, Shaun had to carry him up the stairs. He would lay there watching me sew for hours.
Treasure your hounds, hug, kiss, spoil them rotten. Because we really don't know how much time we have left with them.

I LOVE THIS...just about every morning Keima greets me like this, usually doing a two step between his barking.
The past few days he has been under the weather & hasn't greeted me...but this morning, he was back to being my morning greeter!
