A state board on Tuesday declined to revoke the law enforcement certification of a detective whose mishandling of evidence was cited in a judge's dismissal of a murder charge against Lonoke County sheriff candidate Aaron Spencer.

Current Sheriff John Staley asked the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training to decertify Robbie McCain after he fired him in June, but the board voted Tuesday not to accept the request.

Arkansas' top politicians are set to receive a pay bump after the independent body tasked with reviewing their salaries approved a 2% raise for them on Monday.

The governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer, state auditor, land commissioner, state legislators, prosecuting attorneys and judges will see a pay increase after a unanimous vote by the Independent Citizens Commission.
