I am 51 years strong. Yes, I am getting older. We all are. But do we have to feel old? Does aging suck?
I pose the question because in my fitness career, following some of my workout videos demonstration, I get comments like, “wow, I used to move like that,” and “It must be nice to be still so young” and “wait until you are my age, you won’t be able to move like that.”
Taken back by the remarks, I began to examine the validity of each statement. I wondered, is it easy because I am still relatively young and will I begin to experience a steady decline in basic human movement? Will I start to feel every ache, pain, swelling, and discomfort from change, or will I do everything in my power to embrace the change and move along with it as opposed to push and pull against it? Aging can’t be that bad, and why do you have to feel bad as you age?

In a world obsessed over youth and inundated with images and messages on maintaining one’s youth and beauty for as long as possible, it’s no wonder many devalue and often fear the aging process. Take a closer look at similar words: ancient, decrepit, old-fashioned, rusty, out of date, gray, inactive, exhausted, not young, over the hill, wasted, old fart; It’s no wonder we begin to feel anxious, sad, fearful, and sometimes insignificant.

Remove your negative attachment to aging, and instead of saying I am X years old, say I am X years better, stronger, wiser, and more joyful. And if you have a hard time believing, perhaps you are conditioned not to believe aging can be positive.

GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME

I’ve seen this in my life, time and time again. There’s something I really want, that just won’t come around – until it does (or until I’m ready to see that it’s already there).

This can be a hard truth to grapple with, because it’s difficult to find that balance between wanting something, working for it, and waiting for it to happen.What I can say is this,

As long as you’re putting in the work, something will happen.

It might not come exactly how you pictured it, but it will come, and it will be better than anything you could’ve imagined.

I have loved being married to my husband for all 17 years of marriage. He is my very best friend, and we have lots of fun together. However, life isn’t always fairytale land. We are two human people with human problems. We put ourselves first, make mistakes, hurt each other, and act like fools. But I’m happy to say that I am deeper in love with this man than ever.
I am no relationship expert but this is what I’ve learned so far
1-Don’t Take Things Too Seriously Learn to laugh, even during times when it doesn’t seem possible.
2-Being Right Is Not Always Correct There have been times when we both wanted to be right or both knew we were right. However, being right is not always the best conclusion
3-Trust That Your Partner Knows What They Are Doing There are times in a marriage when you simply have to trust your partner. They will catch you if you fall.
4- We all have different needs, emotionally, mentally, physically
5- Communication is key
Communication to a relationship is like oxygen to life. Without it, it dies.

So it's super important we include resistance training, and let me tell you it's never too late to start weight training. Not only will weight training help you feel great, but it will also help you burn calories faster.

I’m convinced of two things. First, we all desire to be more authentic in our lives. Second, we give up because this whole “getting to know ourselves” thing is damn hard work. It’s also the most important work we’ll ever do.

Authenticity is the ability to share the deepest and truest part of ourselves with other people. It begins with knowing who we are and what we believe. We’re told that we need to “be ourselves” but how many people know what that means?

The confusion starts in school when we’re faced with peer pressure to fit in. God forbid if you stood out in any way. It’s not only peers, it’s also parents and teachers who mold us into who they think we should be. As adults, we’re slapped with images of perfection and social media influencers who supposedly know enough about life to tell us how to live ours.

The pressure to fit in has been exacerbated by the technology age because we’re bombarded with messages on who to be, what to want and how we should express ourselves. The thought of being ourselves is a foreign concept that receives very little attention.

On one level, we’re encouraged to live according to our values, pursue our purpose in life and search for meaning. At the same time, however, we live in a society that celebrates superficiality. As a result, we wear masks that don’t necessarily convey who we really are or what we feel at the moment.😭

It takes more than honesty to be authentic. It takes the courage to be who you are in the moment and not pretend to be someone or something different. An authentic person speaks the truth that comes from their heart. ❤️
