EAST TEXAS NATIVE BATTLING A RARE CANCER NEEDS OUR HELP: East Texas is known for taking care of its own, and right now one of our own needs that support. East Texas native and Harleton graduate Kenny Suggs has been diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. There are only around 1,200 new cases diagnosed in the United States each year, making this a battle that very few families ever have to face.
Kenny has already completed his first round of chemotherapy, and because of the aggressive nature of this disease, he will begin his second round of treatment on August 4th in Dallas. After some time, doctors are hopeful that he will be able to continue his treatments closer to home in Longview. While the medical fight is already underway, the family is also facing the added challenges of travel, treatment costs, and everything that comes with a serious diagnosis.
Kenny comes from a family with deep Harleton roots. His mom, Kenny himself, his grandparents, and his great grandparents are all Harleton graduates, and his sister is a member of the Harleton Class of 2028. This community has watched his family be part of East Texas for generations, and now it’s our turn to rally around them.
If you would like to help with treatment and travel expenses, donations can be made through:
Venmo: Lana-Blackwell-3
Cash App: $LanaBlackwell
There will also be a fundraiser at Bubba’s 33 in Longview on August 25th. Ten percent of the profits will go directly to Kenny and his family, but you must mention that you are there for the Kenny fundraiser when ordering.
Share this post with friends, Let’s show Kenny and his family what East Texas is all about. A community that comes together, supports one another, and helps carry the load when someone needs it most. Keep Kenny in your thoughts and prayers as he continues this fight.
