Today was hiking day and while we didn’t do today’s WOD, my goal was to do at LEAST 5.6 miles for my birthday. We got off the beaten path a few times, climbing over rocks and fallen trees. He was a real trooper and made me laugh the entire time! By the way we ended up hiking over 7 miles and the trail was moderate to difficult.

As many of you know, I work in long term care. Personal protective equipment is getting very scarce for all of the facilities and hospitals. With the state of current affairs, the hospitals are getting the majority of the supplies....including hand sanitizer. We are in great need of any hand sanitizer that you may have extra. I realize that it is in great demand all around, however, we are only getting one case per week from our suppliers, which is not nearly enough. We will gladly refill your stock when this is over, we just need to get through this. Please message me or text me if you are able to help out. Thank you so much!!!!

No doubt we support them because their mini grant supports our value: π™ΏπšŠπšœπšœπš’πš˜πš— πšπš˜πš› πšπš‘πšŽ πšŒπš˜πš–πš–πšžπš—πš’πšπš’ 𝚠𝚎 πšœπšŽπš›πšŸπšŽ.

This grant has funded our reduced memberships for first responders, veterans, and their families. To explain in a post the impact this has had on us as a community is impossible. We have so much gratitude for being able to welcome these people into our community and support their mental health in a tough time through physical fitness and a supportive group setting.

β€’There will be a truck at Freedom Grove with water.

The Alicia Titus Memorial Peace Fund was established at Urbana University in August 2002, by the Titus family and church friends, all of whom had close affiliations with the University. The purpose of the fund is to carry out the legacy and spirit of Alicia’s life by sponsoring programs for the community that promote and support a culture of peace.

One way we can exemplify these two values is by showing meticulous attention to form.

So let’s talk about rowing…

A major flaw in rowing technique is an incorrect sequence of events.

1. Drive through the legs.
2. Slight hinge of the torso.
3. Pull the arms to the sternum with elbows back.
4. Reverse that order back to the catch.

This means as we unfold back to the catch, we release our arms to an extended position, hinge the torso back to the 1 o’clock position, AND THEN bend the knees.

So slow it down! Will it feel robotic? YES! Will the slow muscle memory practice make you more efficient for the long road? YES! (See what we did thereπŸ˜‰)

As you warm up today try this:

1️⃣For one minute- knees extended, hinge the torso to 11 o’clock and row with only your arms.
2️⃣For minute two- knees extended, torso at 1 o’clock and practice hinging the torso back then pulling the arms. Release the arms, then hinge the torso forward.
3️⃣For minute three- bring the legs into play and think β€œLEGS-TORSO-ARMS-ARMS-TORSO-LEGS”

Go slow. Be intentional. Be better.

IT’S TOM!!!!

He is such a great athlete!! He is supportive of all athletes, always comes to class with a smile, encouraging to all around him, hits yoga, bootcamp, CrossFit, always makes coffee for his wife before 5:00 am class (that’s pretty awesome).

Way to be awesome Tom!!!! Congrats on being ATHLETE OF THE MONTH!!
