On Sunday, April 19, Valparaiso High School proudly celebrated an outstanding group of seniors at the 2026 Academic Excellence Awards. Honors were presented to members of the Class of 2026 who have earned a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Among the 97 students recognized were three Valpo Voltage seniors: Ben Barriball (Team D), Grace Griffith (Team E), and Jon Malchow (Team D).

Ben, who received highest distinction, plans to study Pharmacy at Butler University. He selected Valparaiso High School World Language teacher Mr. Kerezman as his most influential educator.

Grace, also a highest distinction recipient, plans to study Aerospace Engineering at Purdue University. She chose Ben Franklin Middle School Engineering and Technology teacher Mr. Salomon as her most influential educator.

Jon, who also earned highest distinction, plans to study Music and Physics at St. Olaf College. He selected Valparaiso High School Engineering and Technology teacher Mr. Kirk as his most influential educator.

That is a wrap on VEX World Championships 2026!

Team B started the day on the skills field, running back-to-back-to-back attempts and eventually posting a score of 162 points, putting them 32nd overall!

After winning their 12th and final qualification match, Team 2790 finished the week with 19 win points and a 7–5 record, ranking 30th out of 85 teams in the highly competitive Design Division. They headed into alliance selection eager to network an alliance partner. Eventually, the Valpo Voltage were selected by the 17th seed, Team 66799X AST-onishing X from Taichung, Chinese Taipei, to represent the 11th seed alliance.

Facing off in the Round of 16, Team B and AST-onishing X fought in unison and gave it their all. Despite a strong showing, it wasn’t enough to overcome the 6th seed alliance.

Despite the early exit, this season has been nothing short of incredible for the Valpo Voltage. From long build nights to intense matches on the world stage, this team has shown resilience, growth, and true teamwork every step of the way.

We are beyond proud of everything they’ve accomplished and grateful for the support we have received throughout the 2025-2026 season.

Until next season!

The Valpo Voltage bounces back on Day 3 in St. Louis!

After a challenging 2–4 start over the first two days of the 2026 VEX World Championships, Team 2790B was determined to turn things around on day 3. Unsatisfied with their 48th place ranking, the team put their nose to the grindstone, going 4–1 on the day and climbing to 30th place overall in their division.

Tomorrow, the team has one final qualification match before heading into elimination rounds.

Keep it up, Valpo!

Day 2 of VEX Worlds, 2790B - buh had experienced their fair share of highs and lows. From frustrating technical difficulties and on-field entanglements to upsetting a top 10 team in their final match of the day, the team showed strong resilience.

With half of qualification matches completed, the Valpo Voltage stands at 2-4, holding the 48th position out of 85 teams in the Design Division.

Good luck to our team as they head into Day 3!

The competition has officially started!

After smoothly passing through inspection, attending the 2026 VEX Worlds Opening Ceremonies, and getting in a practice match, Valpo Voltage Team 2790B - buh, made their St. Louis debut with one qualifying match on the day. Partnered up with team 1784Z from Providence, Rhode Island, Team B kept the match tight from start to finish. Unfortunately, a leak in one of their cylinders drained the air pressure they needed for the final seconds. Despite the strong driving efforts, buh fell short and will be starting day two off 0-1.

Following the loss, the team made a quick pit stop at the local Home Depot to pick up a fresh roll of Teflon Tape to reseal their pneumatic fittings and get their bot ready for tomorrow.

Amazing moment this past weekend at the Indiana Robotics State Championship!

One of our incredible robotics students, Grace Griffith from 2790E – The Electric Wires, earned a full-tuition scholarship from TechPoint Youth and Purdue University! This recognition is a testament to Grace’s four years of dedication, leadership, and passion for robotics, exemplified by her mentorship of students both within and beyond Valparaiso Community Schools.

When the Valpo Voltage held its first callout meeting in August 2022, Grace was among the few students who immediately embraced the vision and helped lay the foundation for what our program has become today.

It has been an honor to watch her skills, leadership, and passion grow over time. We are excited to see where this next chapter takes her and all the incredible things she will accomplish.

Congratulations to Grace on her outstanding achievement!
