Retail exec turned children’s picture book author & women owned business consultant. Each story being unique to their personalities and real life experiences.

After 20 successful years in corporate retail I made the decision to resign. I resigned from pushing myself to climb higher up the corporate ladder in exchange for the freedom to slow down and find purpose. As a mother of three strong and talented daughters, I wanted to be more present, spend more time with family and discover more about myself. I have always been a curious human and creativity ha

Not that we need another reason to fall in love with reading but just in case here is one more. I think it may the last form of entertainment that isn’t crammed full of ads trying to get you to buy stuff. So pick up a book and enjoy.

Happy reading.

A Pop of Indie: Michigan’s only traveling book fair made entirely of independently published kid lit authors.

What started as a small idea between and has grown to reaching 40+ authors and offering a catalogue of 150 books to Michigan elementary students.

We are reinventing the traditional book fair model creating a full literacy experience, connecting students to local authors, new books and entrepreneurship all while inspiring a lifelong love of reading.

I’m so proud of what we built and the impact we’re making on future storytellers.

Hey Michigan, are you ready to fall in love with your new favorite book fair 📚💜

Many thanks to for capturing these moments.

I’m writing my first chapter book and it’s stretching me in ways I didn’t expect. I’m not just writing more words. I’m thinking differently about structure, pace, character development. I share more about how I’m approaching this on Patreon (reneebolla) if you want to join me on this journey. Happy writing!

Vivian Kirkfield’s 50 Precious Words international writing contest winners were just announced. My piece won honorable mention. 💜

My piece celebrates creativity, curiosity, and the courage to ask “why” and “what if”. It’s about encouraging the next generation to think beyond what they’ve been taught, to keep evolving and to create something new…together.

Happy reading.

March is Reading Month reminded me why I do this.

School visits, writing workshops, the MRA conference, growing A Pop of Indie, and connecting with educators, readers, and fellow creatives…it’s been a full, meaningful month.

Grateful to be part of a community that cares so deeply about literacy and kids finding their voice. If you’re in this space too, you’re in the right place.

April…we’re just getting started.

Who Are We Without Our Memories? 03/21/2026

Sharing my recent piece I wrote for Detroit Mom. A personal reflection on my grandmother’s journey with Alzheimer’s.

Who Are We Without Our Memories? Are you navigating a family member's Alzheimer's diagnosis? Renee shares how watching her grandmother lose her memories to Alzheimer’s forced her to question identity, inheritance, and what remains when memory fades.

I’ve been building this quietly for a while.

A space to share more of my writing, my process and the real work behind building a creative life rooted in community.

It’s a space where you’ll find the parts that don’t make it to social. The thinking behind what I’m building. The in-between moments.

If you ever felt the pull to create something meaningful, you’ll feel at home here.

We know reading is everything, but how do we nurture a love for it without if feeling like a chore to our children? The goal isn’t reading logs, reading levels or perfection. It’s whether a child wants to return to a book. And that’s a completely different approach.

If reading feels like a chore check out some low pressure ways to raise readers in my latest blog post. Link 🔗 in bio. Happy reading!

Little Renee would be proud.

Proud she took a chance on herself. She kept growing, kept learning, kept following her creative heart.

This is for all the people out there taking a chance on themselves and doing what they love. Your younger self would be proud. Take a moment and appreciate all you have accomplished.

Michigan elementary schools looking for an author visit that explores family, belonging and navigating change?

The Truth About Stepmoms opens age-appropriate conversations about blended families, stereotypes, and what truly makes a family a family. Students engage in interactive writing and art activities that support empathy, literacy, and representation.

If you’re planning March is Reading Month or literacy-focused school events, I’d love to connect.
