‼️ eBay MUST ANSWER FOR THIS. PLEASE SHARE.‼️
I’m a Top Rated eBay seller, and there is a serious problem with eBay Standard Envelope that is hurting sports card and trading card sellers.
First, understand why sellers use it.
A huge part of the card market is made up of inexpensive singles — cards worth $0.50, $1, $2, $3, etc. Nobody is going to buy a $0.50 card if shipping costs $6+.
That is exactly why eBay offers Standard Envelope: it lets sellers mail lower-value cards at a much cheaper rate so small card transactions are actually possible.
The problem is the tracking.
Standard Envelope does not work like normal package tracking. It moves through automated letter-mail equipment, scans can be inconsistent, and there is often no final delivery scan.
That creates a major loophole:
Seller ships the card.
Tracking may show it moving through the mail — sometimes even reaching the buyer’s local area.
There is no final delivery scan.
The buyer claims “item not received.”
eBay refunds the buyer.
The seller loses the card, the sale proceeds, the postage — and then the claim can also hurt the seller’s account standing.
And this is where eBay needs to answer.
If eBay created and promotes this shipping method specifically for low-cost cards, knowing that final delivery scans are not always available, why are sellers being punished when that exact limitation occurs?
Even worse, the system can be exploited by dishonest buyers who understand that the lack of a final scan may allow them to claim non-delivery and receive a refund.
I have contacted eBay repeatedly about this issue. Instead of fixing the underlying problem, these claims have affected my seller standing, promotional abilities, listing visibility, and ultimately my business.
So my questions to are simple:
Why are sellers being financially punished for the limitations of a shipping service eBay created?
What is eBay doing to identify buyers who repeatedly file “item not received” claims on Standard Envelope shipments?
Why should a seller lose the card, the money, and their account standing when tracking shows the item moved through the postal network but eBay’s own shipping method does not provide reliable final-delivery confirmation?
I have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and I will continue escalating this issue.
If you sell sports cards, Pokémon, TCG, collectibles, or anything using eBay Standard Envelope and this has happened to you:
