Staff Spotlight! Larina Mason is a Physical Therapist with 24 years of experience, graduating from UMMC in 1999. She has been a PT at SRPT for 11 years. She enjoys the personal connection she gets to establish with patients in the outpatient setting. She chose this profession to help patients maximize function and maintain independence at any age. When Larina is not at work, she loves hanging out with her husband and watching her three daughters play sports.
In May of 2023, Larina opened a gym in Vicksburg called Fitness Works Plus. At this gym, she is able to provide one on one training after rehabilitation has ended. SRPT often refers patients to Fitness Works Plus after therapy goals have been met.

Does exercise impact your mental health? ABSOLUTELY! There are lots of positive chemical and hormonal things that happen when we exercise. We could get lost in the weeds on that topic. But this sums it up nicely.

Sarcopenia: big word for age related muscle loss; due in part to physical inactivity and unhealthy diet. It begins around age 30-40 with the most significant loss around age 60 - 80. Happens to all of us (to some extent) BUT IT IS REVERSIBLE!! All you need is resistance training and to eat a healthy diet. You’re welcome 😉
