The 3 step, 5 step drill is an incredible drill for increasing range, building lateral explosiveness, eliminating false steps, and getting the most out of attacking plays.

The feeder simply pushes the player 3 to 5 steps to their left and right. Each time the ball is returned to the feeder, the player goes into a repetitive "pistons" movement, firing their lower half in a modified prep step, ready to use that impulse force to self align and explode laterally to make the play.

5 reps per set, because this drill will wear you out. But it's time tested and time proven.

Save this and implement it into your next training session!

Two ball speed exchange with a partner is a great way to test yourself and build tempo, timing, hand-eye coordination, rhythm, soft hands, deflections, different arm angles, and more.

Cleanly receiving a ball coming at you while giving a clean, accurate feed back to your partner is a great challenge. It pushes you to get comfortable being uncomfortable and trains you to be a better athlete.

Save this and incorporate this drill!

Self feeds are one of the most underrated tools you have. It’s not ideal, but when you let your creativity take over, you can get real work in completely on your own.

Add it to your training arsenal as an individual work option, or use it as a warm up before your main ground ball work.

Here’s why it matters. Self feeds force your eyes to judge the hop and relay that to your body, getting your feet and hands on time together for the short hop. It looks easy. It’s not, especially when you’re learning it. But it’s one of the best ways to train your timing and eliminate in between hops.

You’ll know instantly when you’re late. The hop gets too high, and that’s your sign you missed the short hop.

Get creative. Get work in, even when it isn’t convenient.

This is a beautiful visual of how being a “late bloomer” (in life and sport) is usually a blessing … as long as you keep pushing through the adversity. Never ever give up!

Very often, the late bloomers pass by … become physically better and mentally tougher… than the “early developers” who are often seen (up to 13 or 14 years old) as the “sure to be stars”…. Seen it thousands of times.

The #1 staple drill for every infielder.

The Ozzie Drill.

Named after Ozzie Smith, one of the best shortstops to ever play the game. Ozzie used to do this with someone hitting fungoes at him. Pure hands and reaction, reading whatever bounce came off the bat.

We modified it. Instead of a fungo, we use a feeder who fires the ball in, aiming for a short hop. But it's a human throwing it, not a machine, so you get natural misses. Those in-between hops, not quite short and not quite in the air, are what actually make this drill work. The fielder has no time to think. Just react.

Hesitation doesn't work here. No time to overthink it. It forces pure instinct and athleticism out of every rep.

Get great at this drill and it starts showing up in games. Stuff that used to be hard starts looking routine.

Run this one daily. Save it and tag an infielder who needs it.

"I can't see your kid not liking this"

That's the goal...real coaching kids actually want to be at. Not sitting through cones, not zoning out. Locked in, having fun, getting better.
