HAPPY EARTH DAY!!

Today we celebrate our mother, the one who gives us life, sustains us, and provides for us. Go out touch the ground feel her heartbeat, reconnect with our mother Earth. She protects us and we must take steps to protect her and all her inhabitants.

Decided to head south for a private group today spend time at the Dismal Swamp State Park in NC. Truly a peaceful time bird watching, salamander searching and finding morels!

The blue-gray gnatcatchers were an abundance , found a little redback salamander that was too quick for a picture. However, the morels were easier to get a picture of. We did not consume the morels, left for the wildlife.

Wednesday was a rainy day but well worth the trip. I so enjoy taking groups out to the Great Dismal Swamp.

The otter were out, enjoying the rain. And the beaver has been quite busy over the winter time. The pictures below are two beaver lodges (homes), the second one is fairly new.
The area it is in is a burn scar for 2008 peat fire., which burned approximately 4000 acres.
The area once had a dense canopy, and with the beaver’s help, this is slowly turning into a wetlands type habitat.

For the big picture, come and join one of the bus, tours, nature, walk, or kayak trip.

There is absolutely nothing more peaceful than kayaking on the dismal swamp canal in autumn! Today was a bit chilly but calm. Had two amazing ladies on the trip today enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature and fall color.

It was a rainy weekend and even on a rainy nature hike you can find beauty.. Beautyberry. Beautyberry has many medicinal uses. The leaves can be used as a natural insect repellent, while the berries and roots can be eaten.
***Please be mindful that many edible plants have to be processed a certain way before consuming.
Listening to the sound of the rain falling on the trees only added to the tranquility of the Great Dismal Swamp.
