Press Release- Headline: The End of an Era in Central Valley Soccer 🏆❤️ After decades of dedication, a massive change is coming to Cal State Prep Academy. Director Steven Vargas has officially announced his resignation and retirement from coaching. In a heartfelt notice to our Board of Directors, Vargas explained that recent and other upcoming major surgeries will prevent him from performing his duties on the sidelines. But before we look forward, we have to look back at the legend who changed the game for thousands of kids. Coach Vargas held stints at numerous clubs and schools. He has called Cal Odyssey, CenCal Cosmos (Now Albion), South Valley Utd, Visalia Galaxy (Now CVP), Kingsburg High, ALMS (Selma MS) and COS home, plus spearheaded Real CenCal SC and Cal State Prep. “It’s been a humbling and exciting part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started this mentoring run at 14 years old. First and foremost I want to thank my incredible wife Melissa for being there for almost every step of the way. I’ve also met incredible young people and families, I thank each of you, like I’ve always told you, there is no Coach without players. I’m good now, content on where we are as a soccer community in the Central Valley. Getting involved in club soccer many years ago, there was not much opportunity for the low-income family and more importantly, their children. Now we have numerous clubs and academies geared towards that demographic when there were literally 1-2 just ten years ago. Also, there now is multiple semi-pro national college development teams in the local area. With feeling that the low income youth and the teenage to college age athletes will be ok, it is all telling me it’s time. Thank you, Central Valley, for everything you gave me. I was just always trying to repay those that did it for that young boy that didn’t have much growing up in the ‘80s in Selma. I’ll always be that young boy giving because of all of you!” said Coach Vargas. After that it is pay as your go. No Club, Coach or Coaches travel fees! (Example tournament fee $40-50)
