Last week, on Wednesday, the Hawks wrestled the Lions of Newton South. Despite giving up five forfeits, Waltham lost a narrow contest by a score of 42-38. Securing pins for the Hawks were: Stephen Mutebi, Jake Recine, James Agostino, and Brayden Bross.

On Saturday, the Hawks traveled to New Bedford to compete in the Whaler Varsity Wrestling Tournament. Waltham finished in 7th place out of 19 teams at the tournament, and Senior Mike Ayanyan achieved his 100th career victory!

Individual Placewinners at the tournament were:
Tai Vetrone - Champion
James Agostino - 2nd Place
Danny Collins - 3rd Place
Mish Petrosyan - 5th Place

This week, the wrestling team has a dual meet at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday.

We have SENIOR NIGHT on Thursday, at home against Excel Academy. JV Matches will start at 6:30pm, senior recognition will follow, and the Varsity dual will take place after the senior recognition. This will be our last home dual meet of the season, so please come out and support the team and our Seniors!

This Saturday, the Varsity team will travel to Concord, NH to compete in the Capital City Classic.

The Hawks wrestling team made the trek out to Fitchburg last Wednesday to face the Bulldogs of Monty Tech.

Waltham was victorious by a score of 58-11! Earning pins for the Hawks were:
Vicken Panian, Steph Mutebi, CJ Rutledge, Matt Hovsepian, James Agostino, and Brayden Bross.

On Friday and Saturday, the Varsity wrestlers competed in a big two-day tournament in Essex, Vermont. The Hawks placed 5th overall as a team out of 31 teams!

Individual place winners at the tournament were:
2nd Place: James Agostino - 190 lbs
3rd Place: Tai Vetrone - 285 lbs
5th Place: Hamza Yousaf - 132 lbs
6th Place: Joseph Ayanyan - 126 lbs
6th Place: Stephen Mutebi - 144 lbs
6th Place: Ryan Sotelo - 175 lbs

On Sunday the JV team competed in the Brookline JV Brawl. Waltham won the entire tournament out of 14 teams!

Individual JV Champions were:
CJ Rutledge - 144 lbs
Aiden Johnson - 175 lbs
Mish Petrosyan - 285 lbs

It was a great week for Waltham Wrestling!

Our next meet is Wednesday at home against Newton South. Wrestling will start at 6:30pm! We hope to have a big crowd, so come on out and support your Waltham Hawks!

On Saturday, December 27th, the Junior Varsity squad competed in the Natick JV Tournament.

Individual tournament champions were:
Alex Morales
Jake Recine
Daniel Collins
Stephen Rando

On Wednesday, December 31st, the Varsity wrestling team competed in a quad meet at Watertown. The team went 2-1 on the day, placing second at the quad. Team results were:
Waltham - 63, NE Metro Tech/Bishop Fenwick - 12
Waltham - 36, Lynfield/N. Reading - 46
Waltham - 54, Watertown - 20

Robert Muradian, Eddie Quinn, Mike Ayanyan, and James Agostino all went 3-0 with 3 pins on the day!

On Saturday, January 3rd, the Varsity team traveled to Keene, NH to compete in the BIG Minickiello Tournament.
The Hawks placed 10th out of 36 teams overall!

Individual Placewinners were:
James Agostino - Champion
Joseph Ayanyan - 4th place
Mike Ayanyan - 6th place

It was a great winter break of competition for the Hawks! We compete again this Wednesday in a dual meet at Weston, and Varsity and JV will both compete in the Brendan Grant Memorial Tournament this Saturday in Belmont.

This past Saturday, the Hawks traveled to Mt. Hope HS in Rhode Island to compete in the Sharon Lombardo Wrestling Tournament. It was an awesome day, with the team finishing in second place overall, and bringing home a team trophy!

We had eight individual placewinners on the day, including three champions!

Tournament Champions:
Mike Ayanyan - 150 lbs
James Agostino - 190 lbs
Tai Vetrone - 285 lbs

Tournament Placewinners:
3rd Place: Joey Ayanyan - 126 lbs
3rd Place: Ryan Sotelo - 175 lbs
4th Place: Vicken Panian - 120 lbs
4th Place: Eddie Quinn - 157 lbs
6th Place: Stephen Mutebi - 144 lbs

The Waltham Hawks wrestling team traveled to Scituate on Saturday to compete in the Kevin Curtis Invitational, the first tournament of the season! The team finished in 4th place out of 17 teams, and had seven individual placewinners:

Michael Ayanyan - 2nd place at 150 lbs
James Agostino - 2nd place at 190 lbs
Tai Vetrone - 2nd place at 285 lbs
Joseph Ayanyan - 5th place at 126 lbs
Eddie Quinn - 6th place at 157 lbs
Matthew Hovsepian - 6th place at 165 lbs
Daniel Collins - 6th place at 175 lbs

The Hawks will compete in the first home dual meet of the season on Wednesday, December 17th against Bedford/Acton-Boxboro at the new high school gymnasium. JV matches will begin around 6:30pm, and the Varsity dual meet will follow.

Good evening, Waltham Wrestling supporters!

Your Waltham Hawks High School Wrestling team is hosting a Raffle Night fundraiser on Friday, December 5th at Shopper's Cafe from 6:00-9:00pm. We will be raffling off LOTS of different prizes, baskets, and gift cards. The cost for the raffle tickets is $1 per ticket, or 25 tickets for $20. You will be able to place your raffle tickets in the drawings for the specific prizes you want to win. You do not have to be present to win, and if you can't make it to Shopper's, we can place your tickets randomly, or for specific prizes. Just message us if you have a preference.

Some raffle prizes from last year include:
-Tessie's, Joe Sent Me, Roots to Rise, Waltham Athletic Club, Sapphire Salon, Tempo, Craft Food Hall, City Streets, Feast & Fettle, Westin Hotel, Crumbl Cookies, Mighty Squirrel, Waverly Oaks Athletic Club, MedSpa, Moozy's, and Boston Scally.
