Thanks for everything 2023! A photo dump seemed like a great way to sum it up.
Highlights include: Cherry Blossom 10mi, joining DC Tri Elite Team, team camp, lots of bike rides, my first Ironman, going to Dixie, joining Light Horse TC, adopting two kittens (Suki & Kyoshi), spending time with my niece, and so much more. Looking forward to a fantastic 2024

Instant 10 mile PR today at ! Loved seeing friends from all around the area! Congrats to everyone who raced either day this weekend. This was a great early season fitness check - back to work for Happy Valley 70.3 and IM Placid this summer!

Quick 8 hour trip to Harrisonburg yesterday was pretty sweet

A little late, but wanted to share.
Had a blast at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in St. George, UT a few weeks ago.
It’s been a goal of mine for years to get the opportunity to come here and race the best amateur triathletes in the world.
Certainly have a lot to learn, but thankful for the opportunity to make new friends, explore Zion National Park, and see how I stacked up.
Also cool to meet coach !
There’s a lot of room for growth, and I’m just starting to see the road ahead! Thanks to all my friends and family for supporting me getting here - couldn’t do this without a village.

24 Hours Out: Should have paid more attention to athlete guide and/or briefing. Tried to be relaxed, didn’t think through what I needed in my transition bags vs. not. Had a really enjoyabletime with new friends (shoutout Parrot Endurance) and out hiking in Zion National Park with the JMU peeps Pre-Race: Didn’t want to eat breakfast, got myself to do so, enjoyed hanging out with a couple new friends....

Swim to the Moon 5k today!
Shocked myself with a time of 1:20 to win my age group and come in just outside the top 20.
Thankful for an incredible friend group to race with. Back to the grind for 70.3 Worlds!

70.3 (Sandusky) Ohio in the books.

A solid effort, enough for 25th Overall and 6th 25-29, as well as a 30 minute PR from a very very similar course last year!
Took some risks since I already have a World Championships slot, and veered from my usual strategy.

SWIM: The guy in front of me was a college swimmer, so I figured I’d just draft off him. That didn’t pan out - turns out I’m faster than some collegiate swimmers in open water - who knew 🤷🏼‍♂️. Posted one of my slower swims to date

BIKE: Nutrition executed 💯. Should’ve adjusted my pace plan for the headwind on the front half of the bike. Pushed a little too hard and bike legs left my body around mile 25. Got caught up in a pace pack and struggled to hang on through the back half, which in concert with my overdone front half kissed my run legs goodbye. Failed to adjust my race plan for the wind and failed to stick to my numbers - though not quite as bad as 70.3 Blue Ridge. Making progress, but not quite at perfection yet.
+++
RUN: Overbiking once again sent my run legs down the toilet, and I was hurting from mile 1. Didn’t walk any, and hosted a inspired masterclass in making the most of aid stations. Pretty consistent splits, and mustered up something to run the last 5k hard to try and negative split. Managed to run my way into and past new friend and get his butt in gear 🤪. Posted another 1:35 half marathon off the bike - a little disappointed cause this isn’t where my fitness is, but we’ll break through soon.
+++
CONCLUSION: Not my best race, but achieved some goals and seeing some progress in different areas. Just a little more tweaking and I think we’ll hit a new level. Love making new friends, and it’s what keeps me coming back to this sport. Proud of my result, especially given a recent job change and move. Excited to get into a training groove leading into the 70.3 World Championships in St. George in October!

An Introduction
It’s funny, really. I’ve had this web address sitting in my pocket for the past 8 years, and never once used it. So what? I think that means that I’ve been meaning to build this f…
