This we look back on the women's soccer history that took place at RFK Stadium. ⚽
The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) was founded in February 2000 following the success of 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. The Washington Freedom was one of eight teams in the WUSA, the first professional women's soccer league in the United States. The first WUSA match kicked off at RFK Stadium on April 14, 2001 between Washington's Mia Hamm and Bay Area Cyber Ray's Brandi Chastain. Who came away with the win? ⤵️

A staple at all games since July 2006, the Racing Presidents initially represented the four presidents who appear on Mount Rushmore. Now the lineup has expanded to include William Howard Taft, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover.

Put me in, Coach! ⚾ Today's feature was submitted by Greg Howell.
In 1968, Howell wrote to Senators pitcher Dave Baldwin inviting him to his Babe Ruth League game. While Baldwin never made it to the game, he did Howell one better and invited his family to come out to see the Senators at RFK Stadium.
Even after a trade to the Milwaukee Brewers, Baldwin continued to leave passes for Howell and his family when he was in town. Their friendship continues to this day!

The Stands Rocked. The Fans Roared. The Legacy Remains.
This month, we’re honoring the heartbeat of RFK Stadium – the fans. From FIFA World Cup matches, concerts from the Grateful Dead to the Foo Foo Fighters, NFL NFC Championships, Olympic soccer, and so much more – the stadium belonged to everyone. Relieve those memories one more time as we say farewell.

Events DC and Farewell RFK Stadium celebrate Black History Month.
RFK Stadium served as a stage for some of the nation’s most famous and influential Black musicians and athletes – like D.C. United's Bill Hamid and Washington’s Doug Williams – during its storied history.
Yesterday marked 35 years since Doug Williams became the first Black quarterback to both start and win a Super Bowl as Washington defeated the Denver Broncos in SBXXII.

RFK Stadium was no stranger to a benefit concert – including Equality Rocks! In April 2000, the Equality Rocks concert was produced by the Human Rights Campaign to raise awareness and visibility of LGBTQ+ rights in the US. The sold-out show featured stars such as George Michael, Melissa Etheridge, Garth Brooks, and more.
