Tomorrow night we will have the virtual End of Summer Sound Celebration - in honor of the solar eclipse last week, the lunar eclipse tomorrow and the shifts in life that come at the end of August (back to school, Labor Day, etc.).
For those of you skeptical about what virtual sound can actually do, I tend to put skeptics to sleep - allowing your body and mind to recalibrate. For those of you who know what’s up - make time for your mind.
This virtual class will be an hour long, featuring gongs, sound bowls and other instruments played with a variety of techniques to create a cosmic soundscape where the physical body can relax, the emotional body can soften and the mind can be free, creative and at rest.

I’ll be at the BYTA 2026 Conference this August! Come join us as we celebrate 10 years of Black Yoga Teachers Alliance and continue rising together.
I’ll be offering two things:
a) Sound As A Spiritual Practice - a discussion of the nature of sound as a tool for meditation, concentration, contemplation, peace and liberation. I will be using personal story, gongs, sound bowls and other instruments to help people feel the essence of the truth of yoga - to calm the fluctuations of the mind and align mind, body and breath for clarity, discernment and wise action.
b) Understanding Stroke Recovery: Movement Therapies for Healing with Kimberly Campbell - Kimberly and I will share our journey through stroke and recovery - rooted in self-exploration, alternative healing modalities, yoga, mediation, grit and grace. Through story, contemplation and writing prompts we will offer ways practitioners can better understand the complexities of stroke recovery for themselves and their communities.
Join us at the BYTA 2026 Conference as we celebrate 10 years of growth.

With all the division, destruction and delusion abounding, come be with others as we share joys and sorrows in caring community.
The next gathering of the I Am Not Okay Community practice is Thursday 16 July at 8:15p ET. This practice is rooted in sharing, presence and community - sharing joys AND sorrows we are carrying; being present with both of them to cultivate the capacity for perspective and resilience; and, the alchemy of doing this in community - the healing of being seen and witnessed by others.
The world is continuing to world, and the temptation is to ignore everything or just focus on the bad. But we cannot normalize the things we are bearing witness to that we do not like - we must express them for our healing AND to gain perspective on how to change them - personally, societally and otherwise.

The next virtual I Am Not OK community practice is Wednesday 10 June @ 8:15p ET.
Whether it is the general state of the world, something personal troubling your heart/mind or whatever it may be - the purpose of this practice is to normalize the expression of not being okay and to allow space for ourselves to be with our thoughts and emotions for in loving community.
We will hold space for people to breathe, be, think, process and find a path toward keeping a light heart in heavy times.

Happy Birthday to Prince!
And, peace and love to all - especially those of us forever inspired by his artistry, complexity and humanity.
The first ‘public’ yoga class I taught was on June 7, 2018 as part of my 200 hour requirements with Faith Hunter. I had four days to plan a whole new sequence and soundtrack because you can’t do ordinary and boring on Prince’s birthday.
When I launched Active Peace in April of 2020, one of the first huge classes was a virtual Prince Commemoration with about 120 people including Prince’s nephew rocking out, dancing, doing headstands in their living room and celebrating life in the early days of the pandemic. In fact, the Active Peace logo is done in a font inspired by Purple Rain.
Prince Practice has taken place all over the world, from yoga studios in Washington DC/Denver/Manhattan, to yoga festivals in California and Arizona to lofts in Berlin, Germany to online on platforms like Active Peace and Kripalu.
So to have this article written about Prince practice by for and released in time for Prince’s birthday this year is a beautiful full circle moment, almost a cosmic nudge to focus more on teaching and sharing more magic with the world.
