WELCOME TO DC OKINAWAN KODOKAN GOJU RYU KARATE (WASHINGTON, DC DOJO)
We constructed this page to provide information to our members and to reach out to adults 18 years of age or older who are interested in joining us, but beginners or novices are welcome.
DC Okinawan Kodokan Karate is a small group of dedicated students who study Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate brought through the Shodokan and Shorei-kan lineages. We are fortunate to have a short and direct lineage to the original Master of Naha Te Kanryo Higaonna, who passed his teachings to Masters Miyagi Chojun and Master Higa Seiko. Our Sensei Kimo Wall trained with Master Higa Seiko. For that, we are truly fortunate.
DC Okinawa Kodokan was established in 1995 by two of Sensei Kimo Wall’s students who moved from MA and NY to DC. Although we have increased our membership since then, we remain a small non-commercial dojo training in an informal setting in Alexandria, VA. Current students have a wide range of experience and time training Goju Ryu. Our senior students have been studying and training Goju for over 30 years; and our lead student lived and trained in Okinawa for over 10 years training at the Shodokan prior to its closing. He is currently on a leave of absence in Okinawa. Although training for a long time does not necessarily translate into knowledge we have had the good fortune of being students under the direct guidance of many different accomplished teachers on a regular basis for many of those years. We continue to train with an open mind and camaraderie, and believe we can learn from each other regardless of how long one has been training.
一杯御拝でーびーる (ippee nifee deebiiru) - Thank you
