There is no cookie cutter food or movement plan that works for everyone. It can be tempting to want to seek certainty and follow the guru that tells you very convincingly that there is only one absolute path to success. However, they are probably full of s**t :)

What healthy means to you depends on what your body's current and specific needs are. The two key words here are:

-CURRENT: Your body's needs change over time. What worked for you last year may not work for you today. There are SO many reasons for this. For instance, if you are someone that menstruates, your health needs fluctuate every day based on where you are at in your cycle.

-SPECIFIC: Your lifestyle and needs are not the same as your neighbors. Figuring out what works best for you based on your specific life variables will set you up for success.

This may sound confusing or a little heartbreaking if you strive for certainty, the way I used to in the past. However, being curious about what the current "healthy" means for me has been very liberating because it frees me from adhering to a restrictive definition of health.

Hi friends, I’m happy to share that I’ll be moving to Barcelona next week to pursue a Master’s in Chiropractic at the Barcelona Chiropractic College. I plan to continue teaching virtually and (when possible) in-person, so stay tuned to this page for more info on the next chapter of my journey 💃🏻🇪🇸

This quote is paraphrased from an interview I listened to with Michael Pollan, and it really resonated with me.

Do you have a bad habit that you are trying to quit? And by "bad," I mean a habit that you consciously want to quit but compulsively find yourself still engaging in. Most times, we have created a story around these habits which makes it almost impossible to release subconsciously. I have observed this within myself many times, as well as in many of my clients.

In order to let go of these habits to live a more authentic life, we must rewrite these stories. We must become the phoenix that rises out of the ashes of the narratives that no longer serve us, time and time again.

If you are struggling to release a habit, try answering these following questions:
--How do you feel while you are engaging in the habit? Are there any activities/life events that have made you feel the same way?
--What does this habit say about your personality/values?
--Are you afraid of losing something if you release these habits?

Try not to think too much before answering these questions: write down the first thing that comes up for you. You may be surprised at the story you find come up for yourself. Try not to judge yourself for what you write, as examining your story is the first step in changing it :)

Slow down and pay attention.

This is the feedback I give my students 99.9% of the time.

Oftentimes, speeding up our movements can make us feel badass. Buuuuuut more often than not, you are rushing through a movement to hide weakness in a certain range of motion.

Can you do one repetition of a movement as slow as possible? Can you pay attention to your breathing while you do it? Because that's pretty badass if you ask me 😎

Play is how we make sense of the world when we are children. Then adulthood settles in, and we become too serious for play. We are told that it is unproductive, silly and a waste of time.

But play is serious business! As adults, play releases endorphins to combat stress, stimulates creativity and enhances learning. But more importantly--it helps us tap into the joy of being ourselves. Play is the intersection between your unique capabilities and creativity, and no one can play exactly the way YOU can.

While this may seem like a very abstract concept, adding play into your movement sessions can be done in a practical and achievable manner following the framework. In the GMB Intro to Locomotion workshop, we will be covering the 5P framework to plan each of your sessions: prepare, practice, play, push and ponder. For more information on the workshop, check out my event page :)

Your body can be your greatest teacher if you listen to her.

How often do you really LISTEN to your body? Even when the messages she has for you aren't exactly what you want to hear... even if she tells you that, yes, you are sad today; or no, you can't push today.

So often, my mind has its own agenda and wants to override my body's cues. Our brains have a linear agenda when it comes to movement, but the body's dance is full of twists and turns.

Over the years, I have learnt that when I begin to feel a tug of war between my mind and my body, my body is ALWAYS right. Whenever I ignore my body's wisdom, I end up injured, frustrated or wasting time. There is a wealth of knowledge in the body's cues if I slow down and pay attention.
