Twenty editions in, Gravel still knows how to put on a show. Sporadic downpours in the days before race day turned the Kansas dirt roads into something closer to clay, and the conditions exposed the line between those who could adapt and those who couldn’t.

From a spectator’s perspective, the 2026 edition had everything you could hope for: hard racing, weather swinging from rain and glutinous mud to burning sun and gusting wind, and riders digging deep into reserves of determination, camaraderie, and sheer audacity across nearly ten hours of racing. The winners may have been expected on paper, but nothing about getting there was easy.
