Nice day at the field today in the sunshine. We had 4 players on the Young Glory side that ran in baskets of points in a fun win.

Strong work Luke, Yann, Cole, and Seb! Also nice to see our players out there supporting their teammates…

Nice to see UMW grad and OG draft pick Sebastian Schefermann offload to UMW senior Luke Willis for a sweet try.

Happy Holidays!

UMW Rugby traveled down to Spartanburg, SC this weekend for the CRAA Bowl Series pitting some of the top teams in the country against competition they do not normally get to play - a challenge match of sorts on a day of challenge matches.

We traveled with 9 freshmen in our 23 and youth prevailed! Of note, freshman Ronan Foley started his first game at 10 and sophomore Muzi Chirwa played amazing at loosehead prop to help get us the win over St Thomas 24-18.

Junior Charlie Platt was a star at flanker, and junior flanker Jayden Osbourne made an amazing late tackle to help secure the win. Freshman Dougie Lynch caused mayhem for St. Thomas appearing in every breakdown, everywhere, all at once.

On offense, sophomore 8-man Tian Pretorious racked up some serious meters on carries, and sophomore Callum Emmans scored one try in the first half off a long run and another try in the second half off a crash after many phases. Emmans was voted man of the match and got a fancy trophy!

These games are meant to be fun and while our overall effort could not be described as cohesive, or even average, we got the WIN and the hardware, and the players that we needed to step up rose to the occasion.

Thank you CRAA for hosting an awesome event and thank you all of Rugby East for a great season. We want more and will see everyone in the spring!

Charlie Platt is made of a different material than the average student. Tonight the low feels like 23 degrees.

Charlie - same clothes he wore Aug 15th.

A fast start and a steady wave of offense for the 2nd XV match vs OSU. Both teams featured quite a few players pushing for first team roles or rehabbing and hoping to get back to first team play.

The 2nd XV comp in Rugby East would be right at home or in front of many union winners in the US. We take great pride in the 2nd 15’s record and by the size of the crowd Saturday our fans do too!

Jack Joyce kicked an opening kickoff that found space and bounced out in front of Dash Prather-Long who scored the opening try in just under 7 seconds! Joyce converted the try from the touch line to make it 7-0.

The next score was a good passage of play from forwards that opened up the edge for Joyce to put a crossfield kick into the hands of Callum Dodds who finished the try in the corner making it 12-0.

Shortly after that a quick turnover ball was sent wide to see Ace Cooper assist a try to Tom Howard who scored in the corner. 17-0 mother's

Isaac Hughes had a few big carries and line breaks in this match- off of one he was caught around the 5m line and Max Mckittrick finished the job. Jack Joyce converted to make it 24-0.

The Buckeyes never quit in this one- they got a try shortly after to make the score 24-7.

The connection from Cooper to Howard came up again late in the first half with Dodds to finish the conversion this time- 31-0.

Just before halftime, a back and forth kick came back to Joyce who ran it up and offloaded to Matthew Clinton. Clinton looked up and saw space behind the defense and put a kick through. Joyce stayed with the play and touched the bouncing ball down in the try zone. 36-7 Mother's at halftime.

In the second half it was the same story as the 1H.

Max McKittrick would have 2 more try's assisted by Ronan Foley. Dodd's added a conversion for one of them.

Foley's kicking was very good- he added 3 conversions and a great 50:22 while playing flyhalf.

Harvey Payne, Oran Ritson and Ruaridh Woodland-Broome would also find the try line in the 2H after some unselfish play from the back line.

Final score 69-7
