Vous venez en voiture ? Proposez une place à d’autres danseurs ou contactez les personnes qui pourraient partager le trajet. C’est plus convivial et cela facilite les déplacements !

**CROSS-BODY LEAD & DILE QUE NO: UNDERSTANDING THE MOVEMENT BEYOND THE STYLES!** 🔥💃🕺

Why do we sometimes talk about the *Cross-Body Lead* in Line Salsa and the *Dile Que No* in Cuban Salsa as if they were two completely unrelated movements?

Let’s start by understanding the movement, its purpose and its technical principles before trying to reproduce it.

**Cross-Body Lead** is the English term, while **Dile Que No** is a Spanish term used in Cuban Salsa.
These terms are not always interchangeable in every teaching method, but they allow us to explore comparable principles of movement and leading.

The key is not simply the name given to a figure, but understanding how it works and how it adapts to the style being danced.

🎓 **FOUNDATIONS BEFORE FIGURES**

Whether you dance Line Salsa or Cuban Salsa, certain principles remain essential:

🔹 **Posture and balance:** controlling your body and movements.

🔹 **Weight transfer:** understanding which foot carries your weight and how to transfer it correctly.

🔹 **Leading and connection:** communicating your intention clearly and allowing your partner to respond naturally.

🔹 **Timing and musicality:** understanding the beats, rhythm and how the movement fits the music.

🔹 **Adaptation:** adjusting your trajectory, connection and ex*****on to the dance structure and your partner.

Line Salsa generally organises movements along a line, while Cuban Salsa relies more on circular pathways and changes of direction.

**The pathways may change, but the foundations remain essential. It is their application that adapts to the style and situation.**

🌍 **SO, WHAT MAKES THE STYLES DIFFERENT?**
To understand Salsa styles, we must explore their roots, history, musical influences and the traditions in which they developed.

Styles are not distinguished simply by the figures they use or the names given to them. They also reflect different ways of interpreting music, organising movement and interacting with a partner.

A Line Salsa dancer and a Cuban Salsa dancer can absolutely learn to dance together. It requires understanding their differences, listening to each other and adapting the way they lead or follow.

**The goal is not to impose your style on your partner, but to understand their style so you can dance together more effectively.**

🎓 **THIS IS ALSO THE TEACHER’S RESPONSIBILITY!**

Teaching dance is not simply about demonstrating figures and asking students to repeat them.

It means explaining *what*, *how* and, most importantly, *why*: the meaning of the movement, its purpose, its technical principles and how it adapts to different dance contexts.

**Theory gives meaning to practice. Technique brings control. Understanding makes adaptation possible.**
