The days are getting shorter here, in Grand Rapids MI. Temperatures have dropped. The humidity is all but a memory. Stinkbugs have been spotted, attempting to enter our nice cozy RV. We're just about ready to head south again, but first...
Autumn is entering right on cue. We're here, in Grand Rapids, getting in a last few precious moments with our very favorite short people, and their parents. For a while. Like just a couple, three months. It'll fly. Like 🫰. (Not me pumping myself up for the worst part of .)

I believe this is the 3rd or 4th year we've been here, at this campground, in September. It feels "right". Autumn is my favorite season. I love sweater weather, and all that is Fall. Except for that pumpkin spice coffee thing. Hard pass.

Fred may have been a lizard, in a past life. I mean, if you believe that kind of thing. I have NEVER heard him say it's too hot. He will acknowledge the heat, and he listens to advisories, and he's all about binging a good series on Netflix, when that heat DOES happen. But we definitely have very different comfort zones. I feel like, I can always add a layer. I can only get to a certain point of UNlayering before people hold me down and put my clothes back for me. So there's that.
Southbound, soon. Until we hit the road again.

Deep thoughts on a Thursday night... Here's Sophie. She's five years old, and she just started Kindergarten. Sophie gets it. 😉♥️

Last Spring we visited Big Bend National Park. I'm so glad we got there before the bulldozers. I will never understand how this is OK.

We just heard we lost our friend Theodore. When I was a little girl, I had a St. Bernard. My dad wasn't real keen on having a dog at all, but when he finally approved, he decided we could get a small horse that ate absolutely any and every thing she set her eyes on. Her name was Bernadette, aka. Bernie. She topped out at 116 lbs, as I remember. She was the runt of the litter. I loved her dearly. Despite the fact that she ate every sock or underpants she could get ahold of, and she nearly yanked my arms right out of their sockets, while I tried to walk her, I loved her. I'm sure it helped that I was not financially responsible for her antics, nor repurcussant vet bills. 😶
When we started to spend our winters in Key Largo, we found Theodore. I loved him from first sight, and he became one of Gus's best snowbird buddies.
We'll miss his slobbery kisses, and we're sending his superhuman, Derek long distance love. The Crib isn't going to be the same. 🥹
Run Theodore Run.

We've landed at our June/July spot. Lots of adventures on the way!
Yesterday, my daughter planted my container garden for me. She has skills that didn't come from me. People pay her to do this. Lucky me.

We made it back to Chicagoland after an amazing winter, in Key Largo. It was a looooong one this year. We parked it on the 27th of October, and stayed until April 24th. We would love to say that we avoided the cold this way, but that would be a blatant lie! (We saw snow on Friday.)
Anyhoooo... I'm going to drop a whole bunch of pictures from the winter, early spring and late fall too. I imagine if I posted the same sunsets every night, it might get tedious. So here they are, sprinkled throughout. We watched the sunset over the Everglades, almost every evening for almost six months. We hung out on the dock, and at our little beach a lot. We spent days in the sun, out on the water with our friends. We literally put roots down. (See Fred's lawn!!!)
The people from this small town are as infectious as this paradise itself. We embraced them just as hard as they embraced us back. It is our chosen home now. We're dug in. We're convinced that there's no better place to watch the weather play it's evil winter games. We learned, years ago that the sea fixes everything. This winter threw us some terrible curve balls. I took it all to the end of the dock, and shouted at God until I lost my voice and then, I listened. ❤️ There is nothing better, for my soul. It's our favorite place, for these reasons, and for so much more.
KL, we miss you already.

We are so grateful for a year filled with good health and safe, amazing travels. The roads led us to so many places that inspired us with their beauty. We made new friends, talked to LOTS of strangers and found some of our favorite old familiar faces along the way. There was precious time with family, lots of laughter and so many memories.
And there was sweet, quiet, solitude in beautiful cathedrals of trees and deserts and sea and stars.
There has also been sadness, loss, worry, frustration and more helplessness than I ever thought I'd feel.
I suppose this year has taught us once again that life can be beautiful and broken in the same breath. The important thing is to always keep breathing because it can all change in an instant, and you don't want to miss one second of it.

May we all find peace in this new year.
