Some researchers got together and analyzed Nolan Ryan’s fastball, which was clocked in 1974 at 100.9 mph. This measurement was taken approximately ten feet in front of home plate. With today’s technology, pitch speeds are measured as soon as the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand. A pitch that leaves a pitcher’s hand at 100 mph will (at sea level) slow down by 9 to 10% by the time it crosses the plate. So, the researchers made the appropriate adjustments and estimated that Nolan’s fastball could be traveling up to 108.5 mph.

Now, since this is an estimate, nobody knows how fast Nolan Ryan’s fastball actually was. However, it was harder to get a hit off Nolan Ryan than any other pitcher in Major League history. Harder than Koufax, Pedro, Gibson, Big Unit, Clemens, Scherzer, and Kershaw. Harder than every single pitcher that ever lived. So, whether or not it was 108 or 106 or 105, that s**t was cookin’ and hard to hit!

Ken Griffey Jr. looked so badass in the ‘Turn Ahead the Clock’ uniform from 1998!

The jerseys were supposed to mimic what baseball uniforms might look like in the year 2027.

Honesty. they look way better than most of the City Connect uniforms we have today, so I’d say the designers did pretty good!

Side note: watching old clips of Junior Griffey makes you realize how freaky of an athlete he was! I’ll tell ya what, if he geared up like a lot of ‘90s sluggers, he would’ve hit 80 home runs and probably 800 for his career!

The 1993 Marlins were such a rad team full of cool ass players!

Charlie Hough was a badass knuckleball pitcher who ripped Camel cigs between innings! He pitched for 25 seasons and held hitters to a lifetime .233 batting average, which is 8th all-time among pitchers who’ve thrown 3600+ innings.

Benito Santiago was maybe the COOLEST catcher ever! If Sandy Koufax had the left arm or God, Benito had the right arm! In his rookie season, he had a 34-game hit streak, which at the time was the 15th longest hit streak EVER!

Chuck Carr was ELECTRIC! He was a Marlins fan favorite that was fast as hell and could cover so much ground SO FAST in centerfield! He was a super nice guy who gave back to the community!
