Hesitation becomes confidence.
Thinking becomes instinct.

You don’t have to master it on day one.

You just have to keep taking the next step.

They help players believe they can do things they once thought they couldn’t.

One rep. One correction. One small win at a time.

Skills are developed through practice. Confidence is built when someone believes in you long enough for you to start believing in yourself.

Been reading String Theory by David Foster Wallace. It’s a book about tennis, but I couldn’t stop thinking about sliding.

The best athletes make hard things look automatic.

But automatic is earned through reps.

I see it all the time with kids learning to slide. At first, they’re thinking about everything. Then we simplify it. Slow it down. Repeat it.

And eventually, they stop thinking and just go.

Maybe confidence isn’t something we need to give young athletes.

Maybe we just need to give them enough good reps to find it themselves.

“I hate sliding.”

We hear it all the time.

But what if sliding wasn’t something players feared? What if it became something they couldn’t wait to practice?

Build the confidence. Make it fun. Let them slide. ⚾️🥎
