A hot dog is a taco because, according to the Cube Rule of Food Identification, anything served in a single folded piece of bread or starch with filling inside qualifies as a taco. The hot dog bun is one continuous piece (hinged at the bottom) holding meat and toppings—exactly how a taco shell functions. So, by structure and not tradition… a hot dog is, scientifically speaking, a taco.
