The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans are out for 2025-2030 …and like every version before them, they’re a mix of helpful and confusing 😵💫
✔️ What the guidelines get right:
They push Americans toward more vegetables, fruit, protein, fiber, and nutrient-dense foods. It’s advice that still holds up well for most people. Also, I do appreciate that these guidelines feel more accessible (at less than 10 pages) than prior guidelines (over 150 pages) 🤔
⚠️ What’s confusing:
How does the new “upside down pyramid” that prioritizes steak and full-fat dairy account for also recommending saturated fat intake stay below 10%?! The overemphasis on single nutrients and mixed messaging around fats and carbohydrates continues to frustrate me.
❌ What continues to miss the mark:
One-size-fits-all recommendations don’t account for culture, budget, medical conditions, or how differently bodies respond to food.
👉 The takeaway:
Guidelines are meant to be a starting point, not a personalized plan. Nutrition is complex, evolving, and deeply individual. The idea that health can be reduced to a short list of “do’s and don’ts” (federal document or not!) feels improbable at best and problematic at worst.
If you’ve ever felt confused by nutrition advice, you’re not failing! The system in place tends to pray on that feeling of failure and be at the ready to sell you all sorts of “quick solutions” 😒💊
As a nutrition coach, I do my best to educate my clients so that they feel empowered to truly understand what works best for them in their current stage of life. We aim for progress, not perfection☝️

✨Post-Thanksgiving Recovery Mode: ACTIVATED✨
Last night I hosted my first officially unofficial “sauna, sushi & sake night” ☺️🔥🍣 I was stoked that my family wasted zero time signing up as the test group.
The sauna isn’t even fully finished yet, but honestly?… that didn’t stop us from embracing the detoxing sweat, laughing way too hard, and refilling our sake cups one (or three) times 👀🍶
What I did expect: good vibes 😎
What I didn’t expect: nine family members turning my wellness project into a full-blown holiday tradition 🥰
My hope is to share this space with more of my friends, neighbors, clients, and community as we head into winter ❄️ Consider this your open-door (well… open-sauna?) invitation to warm up, unwind, and enjoy a little post-holiday reset 🤍✨

What has been absolutely GAME-CHANGING for me and my frequency of exercise is pairing it with something I love 🥰
I LOVE leaf peeping and racked up dozens of miles walking in September and October 🍂
I’m OBSESSED with reality TV and pair my favorite reality shows with my indoor runs 📺
My husband watches gaming tutorials or spends time with his brother during his lifting days, while I opt for a book on tape or podcast 🎧
Pairing things you LOVE with something you know is good for you (but you tend to procrastinate) is a common psychological tool to help create a healthier feedback loop 🔄
Because, the best part about doing this is your mind starts to rewire these procrastination activities as enjoyable and you continue to build more positive and healthy habits 😇 win - win, right?
So, the next time you find yourself procrastinating something… ask yourself: “what could make this more enjoyable for me?” 🤔

This is your call to action to DO THE DAMN THING 💪
Here’s the thing: we’re all human.
Humans are biologically programmed to conserve energy. We often choose the easier thing, and that’s not wrong 😅 However, if you let yourself consistently stay on the wheel of routine and comfort, your soul is missing out!
Maybe it’s easy to stick to your workout routine, but you’ve been craving more time with your friends. It might take more effort to coordinate a pickup pickleball game, but it’s gonna be immensely impactful 🏓❤️
Maybe you’ve been meaning to send that thank you card, or schedule that massage. Whatever you *know* you want to do, please do it now 🙏 and, remember, when accessing your inner dialogues: anxiety communicates in questions, whereas your inner wisdom communicates in statements 😌
What are you proud of that you put in the effort for today? 🙌

Do you feel called out?? 🙋🏻♀️ Welcome to the IBD/IBS club 🤣
Life with Ulcerative Colitis means my colon has impeccable comedic timing but zero consideration for my schedule! It’s been 10 years since my UC diagnosis, and let me tell you, we’ve been through some *interesting* situations together 🤭
In honor of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Awareness Month, this is just a reminder that behind many smiles are invisible battles being fought every day. Sometimes those battles involve sprinting to the bathroom with professional composure, then returning as if nothing happened! 🏃♀️💨
Through the flares, the remissions, and the “I swear I’m not ghosting you, I’m just temporarily living in my bathroom” texts... I’ve learned that humor (and transparency) makes the journey a little easier ☺️
To my fellow IBD warriors: I see you, I feel you (literally), and I’m proud of how we navigate life despite uncooperative digestive systems! And to everyone else: thank you for your patience when we suddenly disappear. I promise we have a legitimate reason! 😂
