Hodges Fans 16 in Two-Hit Shutout as Outlaws Blank Goodfellas, 6-0

September 28, 2026
Bluestem Ballpark – Leon, Kansas

LEON, Kan. — E. Hodges turned in one of the strongest pitching performances of the Wichita Independent Baseball League season Monday night, firing a complete-game two-hit shutout as the BC Outlaws defeated the Goodfellas, 6-0, at Bluestem Ballpark.

Hodges went all nine innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 16 and walking four. He threw 133 pitches, 81 for strikes, and kept the Goodfellas off the scoreboard from start to finish.

The Outlaws gave Hodges all the support he would need in the bottom of the first inning.

J. Honey drew a walk and L. Wilson followed with a single. G. Worrell then delivered the biggest hit of the inning, lining a two-run double to center field to score Honey and Wilson.

C. Taylor followed with an RBI single to center, bringing home Worrell and giving BC a quick 3-0 advantage.

From there, Hodges took control.

The Goodfellas managed just two hits in the game, both by L. Osburn, who finished 2-for-3. Hodges repeatedly worked out of the few situations in which Goodfellas put runners aboard, using his strikeout ability to keep the shutout intact.

Goodfellas starter N. Crosby settled down after the three-run first inning and kept the Outlaws scoreless over the next four frames. Crosby worked five innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out eight.

The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the seventh, when the Outlaws broke the game open.

Wilson drew a walk and eventually moved to third. Worrell and D. Winter also walked to load the bases. A. DeLaTorre then drew another walk, forcing home Wilson for a 4-0 lead.

Taylor followed with the decisive hit, a two-run single that scored Worrell and Winter and pushed the advantage to 6-0.

Taylor finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, accounting for half of the Outlaws' runs batted in. Worrell added a double, two RBI and two runs scored, while Wilson scored twice.

The Outlaws collected only five hits, but combined them with seven walks and timely hitting to produce six runs.

D. Davidson worked two innings in relief for Goodfellas, allowing three runs on one hit while striking out four. C. Jensen pitched a scoreless eighth with three strikeouts.

But the night belonged to Hodges.

He struck out the side in several key stretches and finished the game by retiring N. Rotola on strikes, completing the 6-0 victory and his nine-inning shutout.

Wright Dominates as Black Sox Shut Out Lineman, 10-0

MULVANE, Kan. — T. Wright turned in one of the strongest pitching performances of the Wichita Independent Baseball League season Saturday, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings as the Wichita Black Sox defeated the Wichita Lineman, 10-0, at Mulvane Sports Complex.

Wright controlled the game from the beginning, keeping the Lineman off the scoreboard while the Black Sox steadily built their advantage.

M. McDonald provided the first run in the bottom of the first inning, launching a solo home run to left field to put the Black Sox ahead, 1-0.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the second. After D. Welch walked and C. Harper was hit by a pitch, J. Harper delivered a two-run double to left field.

The Black Sox added another run in the third when J. Rousselle scored on a passed ball, then Welch made it 5-0 in the fourth with a solo home run to left.

Wichita broke the game open with four runs in the fifth.

J. Easter singled and Rousselle followed with another hit before McDonald brought home Easter with a sacrifice fly. J. Hall singled, J. Garcia walked, and the Black Sox took advantage of Lineman defensive mistakes to push three more runs across.

The Lineman committed six errors in the game, while the Black Sox were charged with one.

While the offense continued adding to the lead, Wright kept putting up zeroes.

The Lineman managed only one hit against Wright over his seven innings. He struck out 10 and worked around six walks without allowing a run. Wright threw 102 pitches before C. Crockett took over in the eighth.

Crockett allowed two hits but preserved the shutout, giving the Black Sox pitching staff a combined three-hit performance.

The Lineman's best opportunities came through walks and a few scattered hits, but they were unable to turn any of them into runs.

L. Adelman handled the entire pitching load for the Lineman, working 7 2/3 innings. He allowed 10 hits and 10 runs, although only five were earned, while striking out seven.

The Black Sox finished with 10 hits.

McDonald went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Welch also went 2-for-3 with a home run, scored three times and drove in a run. Rousselle collected two hits and scored twice, while J. Harper's second-inning double accounted for two RBI.

The Black Sox carried a 9-0 lead through the sixth and seventh innings before adding the final run in the eighth. Welch singled and eventually scored when Wright reached on an error, pushing the margin to 10 runs and ending the game after eight innings.

The victory belonged to Wright, whose seven dominant innings set the tone from start to finish.

Aeros Use 16-Run Opening Barrage to Outlast Woodpeckers, 24-14

ROSE HILL, Kan. — The Wichita Aeros answered an early Wichita Woodpeckers rally with an offensive explosion of their own Saturday night, scoring 16 runs over the first two innings on the way to a 24-14 victory at Rocket Ball Park.

The Woodpeckers came out swinging, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. R. Nunez singled, B. Hendricks drove in a run with a single, and D. Watkins-Horsley added another RBI hit as the Woodpeckers grabbed a 3-0 advantage.

That lead disappeared quickly.

The Aeros responded with seven runs in the bottom of the first, then erupted for nine more in the second. By the end of two innings, Wichita had turned a three-run deficit into a commanding 16-3 lead.

J. Pedra was in the middle of the Aeros attack throughout the night. Pedra finished 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI, three runs scored, a walk and two stolen bases.

D. Ecton also created problems for the Woodpeckers, reaching base repeatedly and scoring four times while driving in three runs. W. Chirinos collected two hits and three RBI, while F. Leal went 2-for-4, scored three runs and stole four bases.

The Aeros finished with 13 hits, but the offensive production extended well beyond the hit column. Wichita drew 11 walks and took advantage of several defensive miscues as the Woodpeckers committed nine errors.

The Woodpeckers could have folded after falling behind by 13 runs, but instead continued to battle.

They scored once in the third before putting together a five-run fifth inning to cut into the deficit. Two more runs followed in the sixth, and the Woodpeckers pushed across three in the seventh.

Over the final three innings, the Woodpeckers scored 10 runs.

E. Gates led the Woodpeckers with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Nunez went 2-for-2, scored twice, drove in a run and stole five bases. The Woodpeckers finished with 11 hits and also drew nine walks.

Leal started on the mound for the Aeros and struck out seven over four innings. J. Morales followed in relief and was credited with the victory, striking out three in one inning of work. C. Sogard, O. Torres Jr. and B. Cato also pitched for Wichita.

E. Gates was charged with the loss for the Woodpeckers.

The Aeros continued adding insurance after their huge opening surge, scoring once in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings before putting five more runs on the board in the sixth.

The Woodpeckers' seventh-inning rally brought the final margin to 10 runs, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

The Aeros finished the night with 24 runs on 13 hits, while the Woodpeckers scored 14 runs on 11 hits.

FINAL — Wichita Aeros 24, Wichita Woodpeckers 14
Rocket Ball Park — Rose Hill, Kansas

Henley Goes the Distance as Rapids Beat Braves, 4-1, in Kingman

By WIBL Staff

KINGMAN, Kan. — A game that started the day without a playable field ended with Whitewater Rapids pitcher C. Henley going the distance Saturday evening.

After heavy overnight rain left the Whitewater field underwater, the Rapids and Wichita Braves were left scrambling for a place to play. Wichita Braves coach Bob Frey called in a favor through a Kingman connection and was able to secure George Arensdorf Memorial Field for the game, allowing the clubs to move the contest to Kingman and keep it on the schedule.

Whitewater made the most of the opportunity, defeating Wichita 4-1.

Henley turned in the performance of the day, throwing all nine innings and scattering 11 Wichita hits while allowing just one run. He struck out nine, walked one and threw 104 pitches.

Whitewater broke through first in the bottom of the second inning. J. Kraisinger and J. Mullins reached after being hit by pitches, and after the runners advanced, L. Miner delivered a two-run single to left field, putting the Rapids ahead 2-0.

Wichita answered in the third. Pitcher B. Ware singled, moved to third on a B. Clark single, and scored when A. Winter grounded out, cutting the Rapids’ lead to 2-1.

That would be Wichita’s only run.

Henley kept the Braves off the scoreboard over the final six innings despite continued traffic on the bases. Wichita finished with 11 hits, including two apiece from Clark, C. White and Ware, but Whitewater repeatedly worked out of trouble.

The Rapids protected their one-run advantage until the seventh, when they added insurance against reliever Glamann.

Henley opened the inning with a walk, and J. Ellis doubled to left, scoring Henley and extending the lead to 3-1. Later in the inning, Mullins singled home Ellis to make it 4-1.

Henley finished the job himself in the ninth. Wichita again put runners aboard when White walked and K. Konda singled, but Henley struck out Glamann and induced B. Clark to ground out to first for the final out.

Miner led the Rapids offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ellis had a double, an RBI and scored a run, while Mullins added a hit, an RBI and a run scored. B. Horne went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Ware gave Wichita six solid innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five. Because Wichita trailed 2-1 when he left and never tied the game, Ware was charged with the loss. Glamann worked the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

The victory capped an unusual day for both clubs. With Whitewater’s home field unplayable, Frey’s Kingman connection helped save the game, sending both teams west and giving them a chance to complete a full nine innings at George Arensdorf Memorial Field.
