Surfboards For Surfers By Surfers GREAT BOARDS FOR THE GREAT LAKES! Fresh Surfboards (formally known as Loco Loukas Surfboards (LLS) was created in 2005 in Traverse City, Michigan with one goal in mind “quality surfboards for surfers by a surfer” Growing up and surfing in Northern Michigan has been an amazing experience.
After living in places like Florida, California, and Costa Rica and surfing in many other exotic locations, and shaping over 1,000 surfboards by hand nothing is better than surfing in the Great Lakes. Why? Because you are doing something very few people (and other surfers) get to do and that is surf in a lake. The vibe and the level of stoke is higher than anywhere I’ve travelled. Over the last few years it has been my goal to supply Great Lake surfers and shops *surfboards from the Great Lakes. - THE FUTURE Fresh Surfboards is also about progression and taking not just lake surfing, but surfing in general to the next level and moving into the future of surfing. This all begins with the quad fin (4 fin) set up. Riding a quad will allow you to draw new lines on a wave as it will also create more speed. This is due to the fact that the center fin is removed to eliminate drag. With a slight vee in the tail will allow the board to hold in waves with a steeper face. Fresh Surfboards has a wide range of both surfboards and Stand Up Paddle boards available. If you still can’t find what you are looking for then order a custom. I will specifically shape the board to your level. See you in the water! Loukas Bethea (owner/shaper) *A lot of the surfboards and paddle boards sold in the Great Lakes region (and in the USA) are pop-outs made in Asia, with China and Thailand leading the way. This is due to their cheap prices. These boards are made in sweat factories by children who earn less than five dollars a day. It’s time to put an end to this!
Even in Michigan, the search for unspoiled waves lures in brave surfers who know how and when to find them. Up here, it’s never about riding the biggest wave...
