There is a little slice of 9 hole heaven in Walpole, NH. Hooper Golf Course represents everything that I personally love about golf. Reasonably priced, fun design, good conditions, no snobbery, and small town feel. They keep making improvements to the course each year and it shows. Huge penalty for being above the hole which I was soon reminded of. If you have not been here, put it on your list of places to play.

I learned about the concept of wabi-sabi from John Hayes when he built the driver. Wabi-sabi highlights and celebrates imperfections. There are two marks in the heel that were painted gold. For me, these imperfections really bring out the hand made nature of these clubs. John took a block of persimmon and crafted it into a beautiful golf club with his own two hands.

MacGregor was a giant in golf for a very long time. These are one of my favorite blade irons of theirs from about 1960. The details on these are so cool and largely missing today. Golf Pride green victory full cord with rib are the literal cherry on top! retrogolf

Really happy to show off my new custom driver. The club is nicknamed Clubber Lang. John Hayes let me go wild with the options. Here are the specs: 12 degrees loft, 1 degree open face, Hogan shaft (Carolina conversion), firing pin insert, black stain, and leather grip. Honestly, the best part of all of this was meeting John in person and sharing stories about our time in golf. I got to hit the club today and it is a brute!

Finishing up the blade series with three models of Spalding. These are not among the most sought after clubs, but the C Executives are really good looking. I am not sure what synchro-dyned stands for, but it was on a lot of 50-60’s Spalding models. Bird on ball logo was used when they were in their prime. What do you say about these options?
