This weekend, I had the chance to spend time with one of our longtime community members, Kim Tateo 🦋, which was such a special treat. If you don’t yet know Kim, she is an incredible multidisciplinary artist, musician, medium, runs a nonprofit farm with sheep and alpacas, and even takes care of goats! August is here as a reminder of a summer in full bloom and the return of autumn. While we still have a few weeks of warm weather, I’m starting to crave cozy fall drinks, curling up with a book, and a return to normal programming.

While I encourage all of us to soak up the sun as much as we can, it’s not a bad idea to plant some seeds as we think about the final quarter.

This month inside our membership, The Create! Collective, we are thrilled to welcome back Tania Marmolejo to hear her wisdom and experience on getting ready for a solo show. I will also be hosting our Coffee with Kat monthly Q&A to offer support, connect with members, and answer your questions.

It's okay to want to make money from your art. Say it with me.

So many of us were taught that charging for our creativity is somehow selling out. That wanting financial stability means we've lost our integrity as artists. That is simply not true.

After 15 years, one of the most powerful shifts I made was releasing the shame around supporting myself financially. You are allowed to earn well doing what you love. You are allowed to build something sustainable.

Selling your work, teaching, mentoring, building a membership, whatever form it takes, these are not compromises. They are acts of self-respect and a way to fund the important things: your life and art practice.
