BSN is saddened to report the passing of Cocoa athletic director Eusebio Solis. Cocoa Jr/Sr High Principal Denise Stewart notified the parents of their students with an email.
Part of the email read, “The Cocoa High School family sadly announces the death of our beloved Athletic Director Coach Solis.
“He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and students. As adults,we are all aware of the substantialimpact which follows the death of aloved one or friend.”
“Children experiencing the death of someone may be frightened or overwhelmed by the event. They will most likely be looking to you for emotional strengthand guidance,” Principal Stewart said.
Principal Stewart would go on to provide parents a prepared list of guidelines to help their children through the grieving process.
Members of a Crisis Response Team along with Cocoa’s own counseling staff are available to assist students who are impacted by the loss.
Solis took over as athletic director at Cocoa in late July and he jumped right in starting with trying to help raise money for the program.
Solis came up with a QR code that could be used to help raise money directly through Brevard Public Schools and he worked tirelessly to do anything he could to help.
In fact, he found time to join BSN in the broadcast booth for a bit in the third quarter of the Barbecue Bowl this past Friday night to promote the QR code and discuss Tiger athletics.
Solis, 46-years old, is originally from Madrid, Spain, and moved to Hampton, Virginia as a youth.
As a young man he attended Kecoughtan High School and then would go on to play college baseball at a private school (Ferrum College in Virginia) before transferring to Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, where he graduated in 2004.
Solis also helped establish Club321 Baseball and he was instrumental in helping to open The Dingers Training Center in Rockledge.
Dingers said in a released statement on Facebook, “Not an announcement we ever thought we would be making. Eussie, we will love you and miss you forever brother.”
“You had such a big heart! You had a passion for coaching kids the game of baseball, you were instrumental in the launch of Dingers and Club 321”
“You were a friend to so many and would do anything for anybody and just an amazing all around person. You impacted more young athletes than you ever realized. You left us too soon. Words can't express, and we don't have all the details or answers, but as you fly high above us and begin watching over us from heaven, just know you are so loved and appreciated by so many.”
The post on Facebook by Dingers concluded, “Your work here on Earth was genuine and we will always remember you. Like you would say to so many of us... "gracias".
Solis spent seven years as an Athletic Director at Space Coast and he’s been a varsity baseball coach for nine years, seven at Space Coast and the last two years at Cocoa.
Solis rebuilt the Space Coast Viper Baseball program and took them to three District Championship games. The Vipers won one which was the programs first ever district title and they finished as a runner-up twice.
He took over a baseball program at Cocoa that won two games in three years before his arrival and immediately led them to five wins in his first season.
Solis will be greatly missed .
