❓How long have you been a member?
💥I joined in June 2021.

❓Who or what got you started in CrossFit?
❤️My wife, Amber

❓What did you do for fitness before CrossFit?
🏃🏻I rotated between weightlifting and running.

❓What do you spend most of your time doing outside of the gym?
👨🏻‍🔬Teaching science at Mangham High School, spending time with my family, reading, and writing.

❓What's your biggest accomplishment at CFW so far?
💪🏼Notable PRs: 235# squat clean, 445# deadlift; New Skills: double-unders, kipping chest to bar pull-ups, and handstand push-ups

❓What fitness goal are you currently chasing?
🏋🏻Rx more workouts

❓What's your favorite thing about CFW?
🙌🏽I enjoy working out with other people who push me.

❓What advice do you have for our newer members or those thinking about jumping in?
💯Do not think that CrossFit is only for elite athletes who are already in shape. No matter your fitness level when you start, CrossFit will produce growth and help you meet your fitness goals.

Our November Member of the Month is Sunny Wiggers!! Sunny is quick to help others, very encouraging, and always volunteers to help at CFW in any way she can. We asked her some questions about her time with us at CFW….

❓How long have you been a member? I’ve been a member for 5 years.

❓Who or what got you started in CrossFit? My husband started doing CF 6 years ago. I was pregnant at the time but was really interested in all the things he did with CF. I watched him compete in the CF Open, at the gym, in March of 2017 and I told myself that I would be starting CF as soon as I was released from the doctor after having John Luke.

❓ What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? (And/or what else do you do for fitness besides CrossFit presently?) I was never the “in shape” athletic type of person (even when I was younger). Before CF, I really didn’t do a whole lot of outside fitness. I did “mom” fitness (like carrying kids, chasing kids, picking up after kids, etc). Now, in addition to working out at CFW 3-4 days a week, I run a variety of races like 5ks, 10ks and I’ve done a 10 miler, plus I do Spartan Races with an awesome group of people from CF. I occasionally do Saturday’s at the box to work on specific movements and techniques. And, I still do “mom” fitness, lol.

❓What do you spend most of your time doing outside of the gym? (If I’m honest) doing laundry 😊 and raising 3 high energy, outside loving, boys. I also spend quite a bit of time doing schoolwork for the classes I teach at LDCC and Mangham.

❓Tell us something about yourself we may not know. I really don’t like solid chocolate. I will eat chocolate if it has nuts or peanut butter in it, but solid chocolate like milk, cake, ice cream, pies, etc…I just don’t like.

❓What's your biggest accomplishment at CFW so far? Being able to RX two workouts in one week earlier this year. I’ve only done RX (legitimately) those 2 times. I also think getting 20’’ box jumps are a big deal (finally after 5 years!)

❓What fitness goal are you currently chasing? 1) I want to do a half marathon in January. 2)I want to be able to do a strict pullup and/or pushup. 3) Stay physically active as I get older 😊

❓What movement/workout makes you cringe to see on the board? I don’t think there is a specific movement /workout that I cringe to see. I mean, anything with thrusters is just not fun, but I’m not sure if I would use the word “cringe”. There are parts of the workout that are not my favorite, but I don’t purposely skip out on a workout if there is something in it that I don’t feel like doing that day or that I don’t like.

❓What's your favorite thing about CFW? My favorite thing about CrossFit (and it's been this since I started) is that there is always a different workout each day and I can scale/adjust it as I need to for my level of fitness. Some days I can conquer the world in the gym, other days I am just there to move. No matter how I feel when I get to the gym, I feel 100% better leaving after a workout. Most of the time it's not the workout itself but the people in the class, and their encouragement, that put me in a better mood.

❓What advice do you have for our newer members or those thinking about jumping in? Just do it. Don’t think you can’t do the movements or it's too hard. Challenge yourself, know there are always alternate versions of each workout and never stop coming once you start. Don’t make excuses. If it matters to you, you will make time for it. I did and still do and don’t regret one minute of my decision the last 5 years.

CrossFit Winnsboro is officially a Mayhem Affiliate!

A couple of months in and we are loving the programming we are seeing from Mayhem. Some of the most challenging daily workouts we have done to date.

Extremely impressed with the presentation and availability of the daily workouts for all fitness levels. We are also excited with the ability to access the different programs offered to affiliates for strength, running, at-home, etc..

We look forward to what the future holds for us and our athletes as we continue to grow under the guidance of the most successful program in the CrossFit industry.

Scaling/Modifying a movement is NOT a weakness! 🙌🏽

Think of it as a starting point to build strength and technique to get you to your goal. And we all have to start somewhere.

to meet the athlete at their current level, preserving the originally intended stimulus of the workout. Scaling should be viewed as a progressive tool to move athletes beyond their current level.”

We at CrossFit Winnsboro are excited to announce our October Member of the Month, Bobby Blossom! Bobby joined CFW in November of 2021 and hasn’t looked back since. He is someone who shows integrity in all that he does, is welcoming and inclusive, and is always striving to be a fitter, better, stronger version of himself. His dedication to his training has been pivotal in the transformation he has made.

Read on to find out how Bobby has changed over the year and his advice for anyone starting their CrossFit journey.

❓How long have you been a member, and what has changed in your life during that time due to your experience here?
🔥I have been a member of CFW for 11 months. Being a part of this gym has changed my life so much. CFW has opened my eyes to a whole new way of exercising that has helped me lose 85 pounds this year. This gym has given me a healthier lifestyle and I owe it all to CFW. CFW has also given me the opportunity to make a lot of new friends over the past year.

❓What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? (And/or what else do you do for fitness besides CrossFit presently?)
💪🏽Before CrossFit I worked out at a gym here in town, but it wasn't as intense. I mainly focused on one muscle group a day and only ran for my cardio. Outside of CrossFit we do some training for Spartan races.

❓What do you spend most of your time doing outside of the gym?
🏀Hunting and watching my boys play sports.

❓Tell us something about yourself we may not know.
✋🏽Most people don't notice that I am missing part of my finger on my left hand.

Who or what got you started in CrossFit?
❤️My wife Kayla. She motivates me every day with everything she has accomplished at CFW.

❓What's your biggest accomplishment at CFW so far?
🏅Placing 3rd at the Open workouts this past year. I had so much fun working out with all the CFW family. It is amazing to see everyone cheering each other on and to be around such an awesome gym environment.

❓What fitness goal are you currently chasing?
💥I am wanting to lose another 20 pounds and work on getting stronger with my lower body. I also need to work on mobility.

❓What is your favorite CrossFit movement or workout?
😳I know it sounds crazy but it’s probably a Burpee

❓What movement/workout makes you cringe to see on the board?
🏋🏻Overhead squats

❓What's your favorite thing about CFW?
🙌🏽The environment and people. I love that we push and motivate each other to be our best every day.

❓What long term plans do you have in the realm of health and fitness?
🏃🏻To be able to stay active and strong as I get older. I want to be healthy for my family to be here for them and to be able to do all the things my boys want to do as they grow up

❓Which band/station/playlist is your favorite to really get you pumped up at the gym?
🎸I like rap and 80s rock bands

❓What advice do you have for our newer members or those thinking about jumping in?
‼️Don't give up and trust the process. Stick with it and I promise you will not regret the results that will happen over the next few months. If you are scared about jumping in, don't be because there is a family in CFW that will have your back in your fitness journey and will motivate and push you to be your best!!

Programming includes 3 daily workout options: Minimal Equipment & Bodyweight, Scaled, and Moms.

Workouts are provided for Monday through Saturday each week.

Each day includes a summary video of the workout of the day, demonstration videos for each movement, warm-up, workout, and post workout accessory movements.

A few of us traveled to Austin, TX this past weekend for a Spartan 5k and we had a blast. While this was the first race for some, the Austin venue was new to all of us and the race didn’t disappoint. It was hot and dusty with some tough terrain — everything you’d expect from a Spartan race. To say we’re hooked is an understatement. We’re already planning our next adventure!!!

Memorial Day is a time to honor the men and women who have died while serving our country in the US military. In CrossFit, we and many other gyms around the world complete a hero workout on this day called “Murph” to pay tribute to these fallen veterans and specifically to Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy. Lieutenant Murphy was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005. All fitness levels are welcome and the workout can be modified as necessary. The important thing is that we remember. Please join us if you can.
