One of the things that separates Grizzled Warrior from the average boxing gym is that we don’t limit ourselves to conventional boxing techniques.

This is what I call the Stance Switch Strike—a dynamic technique heavily influenced by my martial arts background. During the transition from orthodox to southpaw (or southpaw to orthodox), a powerful strike is delivered simultaneously, creating an unexpected angle and generating significant force through the stance change itself.

In this clip, you’ll first see the technique demonstrated from two different angles at a controlled pace to highlight the mechanics and timing involved. The video then transitions to live sparring footage where the technique is executed at full speed and full power against an opponent, followed by a slow-motion replay so you can clearly see how the movement unfolds in real time.

Unique movements create unique problems for opponents. While this strike is rarely seen in boxing, understanding and applying unconventional techniques can add another layer to your offensive arsenal and make you far less predictable.

Defense starts with awareness.

Working with a beginner young athlete on one of the most important skills in boxing: the slip. Using my “punching stick” training tool, we’re teaching proper head movement, reaction timing, and how to recognize visual stimulus before responding. The goal isn’t just moving—it’s moving at the right time.

Today we worked on ground force reaction, segment velocity, proper hip rotation, and mechanics to develop a faster, more powerful uppercut.

Boxing isn’t just about throwing punches—it’s about making your opponent miss while making your own shots count.

In this exchange, both fighters launch a lunging jab at the same time. By combining a slip with my jab, I move off the centerline, avoid the incoming punch, and land cleanly. Offense and defense should work together, not separately.

Speed bag rhythm progression 🥊

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is trying to force the traditional 3-count rhythm too early.

In this tutorial I break down how to progress from the 7-count → 5-count → traditional 3-count rhythm to build timing, relaxation, and consistency.

Most people improve much faster once they understand the rhythm first instead of just trying to hit harder.
