On Yom Kippur, we ask Hashem to meet our shortcomings with compassion. We stand before Him imperfect, hoping that His mercy will be greater than His anger and that we will be given another opportunity to grow, repair, and begin again.
Perhaps that is something we can offer one another, too.
Every relationship carries moments of hurt, disappointment, and misunderstanding. We don’t have to erase what happened or pretend that pain doesn’t matter. But we can choose not to let anger have the final word.
We can leave room for compassion.
Room for understanding.
Room for forgiveness.
Room for change.
And, when possible, room for a new beginning.
This Yom Kippur, may we be blessed not only to receive compassion, but to have the strength to extend it to ourselves, to the people we love, and even to those relationships that remain difficult.
May this be a year of healing, understanding, connection, and peace.
