WHO PLAYS WRHS GOLFERS WITH HICKORIES

This past week the Wyandotte Hickory Organization played the 15 member golf team from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School with all participants using the old hickory shafted sticks. Four man scrambles were created by mixing experienced WHO hickory members with WRHS team. The students got a heavy dose of golf history using the pre-1930 equipment. The winning team shot 3 under par for the nine hole afffair. Fun was had by all.

On May 12, 2016 hickory golfers collected for the beginning of the Wisconsin Hickory Open held at Whistling Straits Golf Courses in Kohler, Wisconsin. The pictures below are of the warm up round held at Erin Hills Golf Course, site if the U.S. Open - 2017.
This beautifully challenging golf track has a policy of 'NO WHEELS ON THE COURSE'. Which means you carry or you hire a caddie.
Being more practical physically than economically, I chose the caddie. It was a smart move as he saved me a half dozen strokes.

INTERNATIONAL HICKORY CUP - In October, 2014 American hickory golfers flew to Scotland to take on Great Britian and the rest of Europe in the first biennial IHC Ryder Cup format competition. The Red, White, and Blue prevailed by a narrow margin bringing 'The Cup' back to the USA.

The 2016 event will be held at the beautiful Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on February 23, 24, and 25. Several W.H.O members are representing our country - Mike Shiff (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Ed Ronco (Wyandotte, MI), John Berggren (Houston, TX), and Hugh Cameron (Ontario, Canada) will be participating on the 20 man roster. Congratulations and good luck to HICKORY TEAM USA - Captained by Rick Woekener, Co-captain Mike Stevens.

To all of our members, friends, and supporters of Hickory Golf!!

On Saturday, October 3, at Wyandotte Shores Golf Course, forty hickory golfers teed off in heavy winds and cold to compete for the 5th Annual WHO Open. Gusts of 30 to 40 miles per created havoc with the scores. But not all the golfers succumbed to harsh elements. Two players battled for the top prize finishing with a more than respectable 76 and 78. Canadian Hugh Cameron won with his four over par with Flint resident Jason Schaffer taking a worthy second place. Bill Ellington took the third place medal.

Winners in the other divisions were:
Senior: Ed Ronco - Wyandotte
Statesmen: Max Hollon - Evansville, IN
Ladies: Kris Ellington, Riverview

More results soon.
